At 11.00am (26°) we turned round and headed back south.
A nice Swallow-tailed Bee-eater.

Then two PCGs flying around and making contact (not sure if male and female, or male seeing off another male).

Some other visitors pointed out this Spotted Eagle Owl as it was well hidden at the base of a tree.

Then we found these four Ostrich.

Another Spotted Eagle Owl.

At 1.15pm (30°) we were back with the Cheetah. She was now lying under a tree

and the kill was partially covered in the riverbed. Hope she manages to hang on to it for a while longer so that she can have more to eat.

At Auchterlonie waterhole: Gemsbok and Ostrich pair with 14 chicks.

After our nine hour game drive we arrived back at TR at 3.00pm!

We had a short rest and refuelled (both ourselves and the car!)
The call of the wild was still there so at 4.50pm we left camp again (but for the last time!!!!!!!).

We turned up the Nossob road.

First up, a Secretary Bird.

Then a nice little surprise :o A pair of Double-banded CoursersImage

with 2 chicks – one tiny little ball of fluff

We like stopping at Sociable Weavers nests and just sitting watching the little birds going in and out of the nest.

We turned back at Rooiputs waterhole.
A Kori Bustard.

A PCG ( thanks PCGs for showing us your beauty and also leading us to our lovely Honey Badger sightings!).
Image

Once back at the Giant Eagle Owl tree the Mum seemed to have flown but the baby was still there. He was giving us a very stern stare ("haven't you two finished yet?" " Yes little one we have now finished and you will be a big handsome adult when we see you next"!)
Image

We were back in camp at 7.15pm (26°).

FRIDAY 8TH NOVEMBER
Today we had to leave the park for the long drive to Vryburg for an overnight stop before continuing to Jo'burg for our flight back to the UK.

It had been a brilliant holiday. :D It had been quite tiring as expected. We had not seen as many raptors as we had been hoping for :( but the mammals made up for it :D :D :D :D . It had been a real big cat experience with all the cheetahs, lions, leopards and wild cats. The Cape fox, meerkat and honey badger sightings had been amazing too. It had also been lovely to see so many Springbok fawns - so sweet!

It was lovely meeting so many 'mites - Nina! and Jazetoni, lion queen and SO, Jacliz and Jeff, Katja, katydownunder, Francolin, wildcatzoo and SO, Hayley Idaho, Nyala, enrico and rjm.

Thank you to all you 'mites who have been following our trip report and sent us lots of compliments, especially regulars (you know who you are). It was an amazing experience and great reliving it all this way and will be nice to delve back into now and again when we are feeling down and need a KTP pick up!

A big thank you to all the KTP staff who had helped make our trip comfortable (especially Willem at KK for his magic with the leopard!)

Last but not least, thank you to all the lovely animals that came out to show us their beauty.

We will be back in KTP as soon as we can (2015?).

Our next trip will be KNP in September 2014 so we have that to look forward to. Hopefully that will be an amazing TR too.

Now that we have managed our first TR we are going to do another one soon with pix from our trip to the West Coast NP back in June 2013.

That's all folks!!!!!!!!

Take care,

Peregrine Falcon and DASSIEDELIGHT
