This was a "long time no see visit" to Tsitsikamma.
During our last visit in 2003 we stayed at the Oceanette.
Now after ten years we want to see the suspension bridge again.

Our memories are unfortunately not the best. We had been at Storms River Mouth two times.
The landscape and the dolphins were always great,
but each time during our visits SO had influenzal infects, he even had fever last time.
During each of these holidays he had to see the doctor.

This time we kept well. :D

After a lot of road works at the Garden Route we arrive at the gate in the early afternoon.

Soon we are on the recently new tarred road, the lines are recently painted.
Four tourist buses are at the parking near the road.
At the area infront of the log cabins we are lucky to get the very last parking.

Image

This Friday afternoon it is very busy. Some families are having a braai.

Image

We start with the walk to the suspension bridge.
There is a little waterfall right at the beginning of the walkways.

Every now and then there are views to the ocean.
There is a view back to the very busy restaurant ...

... and another nice view to the Indian Ocean.

When you see this sign you are very close to your destination ...

View along the coast line.

There is a new suspension bridge!

Ten years ago there was only one suspension bridge, now we are surprised there are three.

We walk down the stairs

Image

and soon we are crossing the Stormsriver Mouth on the suspension bridge.

This suspension bridge has been rebuilt by SANParks in 2006.

There is still this breath taking view of the Stormsriver

View of the three suspension bridges

The two new suspension bridges are available since 2009.
There are really a lot of wonderful changes since our last visit. :)

Today there is wonderful weather, good for a boat trip.

Image

The new suspension bridges enable a round trail and after crossing the new bridges

Image

we take the new stairs to return.

Image

Fortunately there is time to sit down and enjoy the forest and the bird's singing. :)

As we leave for our accomodation in Stormsriver Village there is no cloud in the sky.

Image

Tomorrow it is planned to see the Big Tree.
I had been to the Big Tree several times.
Unfortunately it was always in the late afternoon, always in a hurry.
Our next visit is a very well organized visit with enough time and no hurry.
We are going to see the Big Tree as part of a two hour Segway tour. :)

Last night there had been rain showers, but as we arrive at the Lodge which provides the Segways there is sunshine again.
We get the first timers instructions from our guide Marshall and soon we are on the way to the Big Tree.
As it is my first Segway tour I'm glad we start in Tortoise mode.
In the forest we switch to normal and soon we arrive at the parking area of the Big Tree.
Now it is time to walk at the board walk, only 35 meters left ..

Image

and there it is, the Big Tree.

Image

Image

Too big for a single picture. The 1000 years old tree is about 36 meters high.

We see the fallen tree which provides enough space for new trees to grow.

Image

Image

As the walk through the indigenous forest leads back to our parking area
we are soon on our Segways again.

Image

The route back to Stormsriver Village seems to be very short.
Now as we are getting used to the Segways our tour is over too soon.
We already think about a Segway tour in our home town.
