Okay we are back just need to down load the camera tonight and then I can start. We didn't do alot of drives due to the very hot days and then the Mini flood.

I will just do a photo gallery (with short story) this time......

But you will have to wait....... sorry.

For those folks that are worried about if it's dry or green

IT'S GREEN and after the rain even more so (but we will talk about the rain later)

It was very hot (like a black leather seat on a sunny day = hot) so we didn't do all the drives we would have liked to. With the NetEkkies it would just have been a suicide mission trying to keep them in a hot car.

So that being said I will make this tale more of a theme storie than ball by ball.

So that first...... :hmz:

As you saw the world is green they had some nice rain the week before we arrived (and some more while we where there)

Now that's a good place to start the Mini Flood: I'm mixing up the whole time line, now but who cares.

Our view from the Lapa of the Limpopo on day one the 21/12 looked like this:

Another pic that shows how fast and how much the water level drop as you can see the "wet" line on the bank.

The term Baby Boomers can easily be used when you look at the little ones you find everywhere. Enough water and good grazing must have helped. Here are some of the babies we saw on our trip:

We also saw baby Wlidebeest and Hippo but couldn't get a nice pic of them they where a camera shy.

I even saw a little baboon that was still wet hanging under mommies tummy.

Thanks everybody for following my adventure and your words of encouragement.

Since I'm on small things here are some of the creepy crawlies we saw.

Image

My middle NetEkkie calls them Pink Fuzzy Aliens. Well the P and F you can see but they just appear after rain, hence she said they must be from "outer space".

Image

This photo was meant for the 3 species 1 pic thread but the ant run off so no number 3 for me here. (Mental note to myself try catching ant and put it back in shot)

Image

My hubby actually called me to come and look at this Roman it was a trophy size about 8 cm long and very "irate".

Image

And after the big one I couldn't help but put this little one in that is just sitting thinking

"You can't see me..... Right"

We`ll be going from Punda to Map in March. Is there a recommended route, and how long should it take?

I haven't done that trip but I would think Thohoyandou, Louis Trichardt (Makhado) Musina then you take the Alldays road and when you get to the road closed (oil drum in the road) turm Left on the dirt Road marked Weipe then you follow the dirt road. At one stage you will get to a "boomgate" the people will ask you where you are going, then you smile and say Mapungubwe (please be friendly) they will ask you to please drive slowly while you are on the farm (20km/h). You just follow the road you'll see it's clear till you get to the next boom gate. You wave friendly and say thank you. Then you go to the end of the dirt road T junction back on to the tar road (I saw a Gemsbuck right at the junction) you turn right and follow the road till you get to Map Main gate.

Now let's take a step up in size now let's look at the Birdies:

This Bronzewing was one of my lifers for this trip.

Image

The bee-eaters are always a pleasure in summer. I saw a total of 4 differnt ones (Red throat, Europeans, Carmine and Little) but only got pics of 2.

Even the "tirantulas" stayed in the shade;

I saw more Sand Grouse this year than the 13 previous years combined:

More birdies to follow. (I don't want the PC's to crash)

There is a secret place just below the one pump station (first building after the convluence parking area) where a little pond has form. We always stop there and just sit and watch the birds come down to drink.

Image

We saw this little Wood sandpiper (thanks to the forum for the ID) there on this trip:

Image

Also something you don't see everyday a Foam nest of some type of frog (not sure what type) It took some explaining for the little ones as to how a frog can lay it's eggs in a tree (they are still a little small for the birds and the bees talk so I had to get very creative with my explanation):

This little guy was sitting on a rock right next to the road. Isn't he a beauty with that tail:

Image

For those that have watch the movie UP:

Squirrel!

( the NetEkkies love the movie and love shouting Squirrel everytime they see one running up a tree, which is every 15 meters sometimes.)

He looks like a clown hanging on this branch:

Image

We call them Toeratjies it seems to be a name given to them in the area.
