I have a photo taken a loooong time ago (no comments from the peanut gallery!) that shows I first visited Kruger National Park when I was 8 months old.
Some years later, when our own two boys had grown old enough to enjoy a trip to the Park, we took them in for a day visit ... and the rest, as 'they' say, is history. It was the start of a great love for Kruger and as we explored further, of all our South African National Parks.
South African National Parks, (SANParks), manages a system of parks which represents the indigenous fauna, flora, landscapes and associated cultural heritage of the country. Of all the national parks, most have overnight tourist facilities, with an unrivalled variety of accommodation in arid, coastal, mountain and bushveld habitats.
National parks offer visitors an unparalleled diversity of adventure tourism opportunities including game viewing, bush walks, canoeing and exposure to cultural and historical experiences. Conferences can also be organised in many of the parks.
The national parks are: Groenkloof, Kruger, Table Mountain, Marakele, Golden Gate, Camdeboo, Mountain Zebra, Addo Elephant, Garden Route National Park (Tsitsikamma, Knysna, & Wilderness), Bontebok, Agulhas, West Coast, Karoo, Namaqua, |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld, Augrabies, Kgalagadi, Mapungubwe, Tankwa Karoo and Mokala.
On Friday morning we plan to set off on a trip we hoped to do last month but had to postpone, and spend a night at Namaqua NP, then another stop over at Port Nolloth, and on Sunday we plan to reach the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. When we drive through the gates, it will be our 20th SANPark and a 'full house' as we will then have visited every SANPark.
We are really excited to explore this park. From the pics we have seen it looks like a really beautiful part of the country.
We are spending 6 nights in the park, and although I have a dismal record of finishing trip reports, (we still have to complete our last one
) both Hawk and I are looking forward to coming back here and sharing our experience with you guys.
