27.04.2012:
After just one night in Nossob we continue to Grootkolk.
There we have the big luck and get the cabin No. 1. :D
Today we make ourselves comfortable in front of the cabin and enjoy the great place.
I could sit there for hours and not like now in wet-cold Berlin. :(

Image

Besides the "usual suspects" coming some Kudus to the waterhole. There are many birds to watch. The Red-billed Quelea fly in large flocks through the air. An impressive spectacle. Falcons try to catch a bird.
At night we heard lions roaring nearby. :D

Thank you, Philip1. :D :D

Welcome and thank you forestgump. :D :D
For you 2 more elephant shrew :cam:
However, they are not photographed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park  , but in the Skilpad Section of the Namaqua National Park.

I thank you all, forestgump, Pumbaa and Cape of Storms. :) :) :) :gflower:
Now it goes on. I'm a little digressed

28.04.2012:
Today we take a tour to Unions End.
At the waterhole 'Unions End' we take a longer break and watch many birds.
Very impressive is a large flock of Red-billed Quelea.

Butterflies flutter around.

African Monarch (Danaus chrysippus)

A larger group of Blue Wildebeests comes to drink.

Thank you, Trrp-trrrrrrrr. :D :D
I like the Elephant Shrews also very much. It's funny to watch how they move their long noses, when they sniff.

29.04.2012:
Today we want to start early.
About 7:00 o'clock Kudus come to the waterhole. They look nervously in our direction and give warning sounds. Something is wrong here! :hmz: :hmz: :hmz:

Right next to our cabin 3 lionesses run along and start to a short spurt. :D :D :D

The Kudus flee and the lions surrender fast. Then the lions drink close side by side at the waterhole.

Yes, it was a great experience. :D

But still someone followed there.
Close to our cabin (see the birth bath) walks a imposing lion.

We observe fascinated this scenery and we are glad that we have dawdled in this morning. :D :D :D If we had driven off five minutes earlier, we would not have noticed it more.

Thank you, Carol g. :D :D
However, we stood in the door and not on the fence. We want once again to Africa.

Yes, the fence ... I would not have needed it. He already existed 2010.
But Grootkolk still remains for us one of the most wonderful places. :D :D :D

Here is a photo from 2008 as a reminder.

Then we make still another trip to Unions End. Some Bat-eared Foxes roaming around in the dry river bed.

On the return trip we see three Cheetahs. :D :D
We can observe them long, because they run in our direction along the way.

Yes, we had a great trip. We can hardly expect it to be there again. 8) :D

Unfortunately, my report comes to an end. :( - there are still 2 stations (Nossob and Mata Mata).

Here are a few photos of the accommodation at Grootkolk:

In the afternoon we make a short trip to the waterhole 'Marie se draai'. There we see a honey badger. Unfortunately, the encounter is very short.
