Welcome katydownunder and many thanks :D :D
Yes, that was a great sighting of Miera.
And it would be already betrayed, not the last.

Barn Owls have their home in an old weavers nest.
Many of you probably know it. It is located on the southern branch to the loop to 'Veertiende Boorgat' .

22.04.2012:
Today we have to leave Urikaruus.
Our next station is Twee Rivieren for one night.

At the waterhole 'Rooibrak' we observe for a long time a larger group of Giraffes.

North of 'Batulama' we see a Meerkat colony.

(I especially love this picture.)

In the sky an airplane is to be seen. Fun to watch, as the heads of Meerkats follow the plane:

Near the waterhole 'Munro', there is a commotion in a Weaver birds nest.
The birds fluttering excited, because a Cape Cobra plunders the nests.

Image

Image

The small Weaver birds defend courageously their nests and attack the snake.
But they have no chance.

Image

The snake crawls through the nests - a hole in it, the other out and takes its time ...

This year we see many Cape Cobras.

At 17.30 clock starts the Sunset Drive. Meeting point is in front of the old reception. We two are the only guests. We are welcomed by Graham. It is nice that he makes the tour also with us both alone.
We drive along the Nossob valley.

The first animals are unusual guests - Egyptian Gooses.

Spotted Thick-knee (Burhinus capensis)

We have luck with African Wild Cats. Overall, we review seven cats, including a cub with mother. The kitten romps through the area. Unfortunately, they are quite far away.

We still see two porcupines. However, they disappear fast.

A big thank you to barryels, hilda and Pumbaa. :) :) :)

23.04.2012:
The next morning we discovered that we have a flat tire.
Fortunately, we are at Twee Rivieren and so we drive to the local garage.
The staff there quickly find the hole and fix it. They make a fast and excellent work.

Around 10:00 clock we leave to our next stop - Kieliekrankie.

We take the longer journey across the Nossob side.
Before 'Leeuwdril' we see our third leopard.  He (or she) is quite far away under a bush. Next to it is his prey (right of the tree).

Against 13:15 o'clock we arrive in the camp Kieliekrankie. Willem welcomes us and we get the cabin No. 4. I like the situation of this cabin best of all.

After a snack we make one more trip into the Auob valley.

Just before we reach the dry riverbed, a Leopard crossing our path. So lucky. We are very happy. :D :D :D
Later we can identify the Leopard again as MIERA. We could observe them already a few days ago near 'Montrose'. She disappears over the ridge in south direction.

We speculate on the fact that she wants to go to the waterhole 'Auchterlonie'. We will see later there again...

We go to 'Monro', but can not see anything except various antelopes.

Back at the waterhole 'Auchterlonie' we wait and scan the surroundings.
And really, there the leopard coming down the slope towards the waterhole. :D She is difficult to discover. She stays for a while at the water basin, before it disappears again.

Well camouflaged:

Also we have to leave to be on time in Kieliekrankie, because at 18.30 o'clock is "closing time".
