Day 11 - 13th October - Continued

SO made lovely chopped boiled eggs which we had with toast and left over hamburgers for lunch. We then proceeded to recharge some equipment and download some photographs before retiring for a rest at 1pm.

SO had tried new cortisone cream on her bee stings the night before and the swelling and rash had drastically reduced – can seriously recommend this product.

Awoke at 3.30pm after a very nice COOL sleep to pack the cameras and coffee etc. back in the car for our afternoon drive which we had planned to go South in the hope of good photographic light.

We left camp at 4pm expecting to be at Marie’s se draai (11km’s) by 4.20pm we eventually got there at 6pm. It was the slowest 10km’s I have ever done and the reason for this was following a lone male cheetah for at least 6km’s of this distance.

We eventually lost cheetah as it moved across to the other side of the river bed this was about 1.2km’s short of the waterhole.

We proceeded to marie se draai and sat and looked at vacant space as there was not an animal 500m of the waterhole either way. At around about 6.20pm when we were considering leaving we were rewarded for our patience when the cheetah came strolling down the middle of the riverbed in perfect light.

Lovely Cheetah  and I had to chuckle at the Squirrels. I could just imagine their scurrying.

Jan van Wyk – thank you for the nice comments. The jackal shoots came out nice just a shame the actual catch we missed as just to many birds in the way.

DASSIEDELIGHT – you are so right how time flies. Your trip report is moving fast nice photos from Grootkolk. Regarding the bbj and dove they try and try again it is amazing to watch.

Pumbaa – yes got lucky with the unit and the Bateleurs provide good opportunity for photos but need patience. Glad you liked the bbj shoots it took a long time to get them. Lots of lions around Nossob and sometimes very close.

Meandering Mouse – thanks and glad you enjoyed the flowers. Getting sick far from help, home can make for a nervous time and the jackals really are intense when they are hunting the doves and you can watch for hours. Squirrels to cute and cheetah good to us on this trip.

Gatita – you have some very nice photos in your report looks like you had a great trip as well. I could not agree more the units need a way to get ventilation they were very hot. 100% they must be feeding the starling which is quite disturbing. With the doves we went there as the gate opened but I would say it took at 45 minutes before the action started so about 1h15 after gate opening.

Lionspoon – glad you liked the Bateleur shoots.

Nina! – Doing the report also makes me dream about being back in KTP. Thanks for the nice comments and yes more to come.

Trrp-trrrrrrrr – glad you enjoying and many thanks for the nice comments. You are right about dinner being served but it took a lot of skill and patience by the bbj to eventually catch a dove. The squirrels are adorable and if you sit long enough they will come quite close. Squirrels played with each for quite a while and the cheetah we good luck but it took a long time.

Philip1 – thanks and it seems never ending but hope you still enjoying.

SurfCindy – more episodes to come and glad you liked the Bateleurs. Glad you enjoyed BBJ, doves and the lions. Nossob had a lot of lions as per normal.

Barryels – thanks for the nice comments.

Hilda – Glad you back on board, hope you had a nice trip to KNP. Thank you for the nice comment on the squirrels and cheetah but KTP made it easy with good light.

Foxy – glad you managed to catch up and yes we got some nice shoots of our sightings on this trip.
