After only one night it was time to say goodbye to Boulders....
This is what we found on our windscreen in the morning

Then we arrived at Shimuwini 8)
We soon moved into our home for the next 3 nights.

A big Croc in the River.

Shortly after we arrived a beautiful breeding herd of Ellis came to the river for a drink.

Shine visited us....
The old lady... But she looked pretty good!

You could still see the destructions of the floods ...

And then it was time for a braai and with a nice glass of wine we listened to the sounds of the bush....

The paw marks were small cheetahlady , there is a resident Genet at Boulders, we did not meet her, but I guess these marks were hers
Shimuwini looks a bit different after the floods, it seems as if a piece of the grass in front of the cottages is missing....
Such a shame that the hide is gone :(

Got up early and waited for the sunrise with a nice cup of coffee.
I was rewarded with a breathtaking sight, but gosh it was cold

10.05.

That morning still on the private stretch of road we spotted some Kudus.

Image

We were heading towards the south again.
Then we found a little traffic jam. We stopped and discovered what they were looking for.
Lions.

Image

Then most of the others got impatient and left, except us and one other car.
And we got rewarded, a Lioness was stepping into the road right in front of us.

Then a second one appeared on the other side of the road.

Again the first one
Lying pretty...

Scanning the area

And then they were gone

We stopped at Sable Dam

And found some Dassies on the rocks at the end of the loop.

Heading back to Shimuwini we took the S131 ( entering near Phalaborwa gate) ,for the first time, I don't know why we never drove this pretty road before  ...

Here we spotted her....

To be continued....

Shortly after we turned onto the main road again, we stopped on a bridge to watch two Ellis digging for water...

Image

Then all of a sudden Francolin got very excited....
Whispering: " A Leopard! A Leopard!"
And indeed a Leopard was lying in the grass, watching us...
We even discovered, that he had a kill hidden in the bushes behind him...

Then another car arrived and it got too buys for the Leopard, he turned around and left.

We wondered how long he had already been there, probably the whole time that we were watching the Ellis.  :slap:
He was so well visible, Francolin said: Like a carrot lying in spinach

Now that he was gone we left as well...
Meeting a group of Ground Hornbills shortly after that.

We then decide to return back to the Leopard, to check if he might have returned....
And indeed he was back again...

And then she ( we discovered that when she walked away) turned around and left once again....

Image

Can you imagine the very big grin on our faces ?!

On the low water bridge we spotted a Terrapin

Image
Larger View

The Giant Kingfisher was closer this time

Image

On the way back to the camp we met this shy Nyala bull...

This afternoon we did not take a walk through the camp, as we were (unfortunately) busy packing our stuff, as this was our last full day in the park.... :|
As usual we still had a couple of hours left the next day though...

We just had a morning coffee and were bout to pack the car, when we heard a huge hullaballoo down at the river.
Two Hippos had a fight!
We have never heard that before, pretty impressive to say the least
