We had found a hyena den driving the S130 last august. Sadly no one there. The next day we decided to try our luck again. We arrived at the sight and only saw one other car which we didn’t see as a good sign. De den was no more than 5 meters of the road so it was easy to count the 18 hyenas who were out to play. They were in all kinds and sizes and the really tiny ones (couple of weeks old :D ) where really misbehaving. One of the adults came up to us and started to circle our car along with some of the older and more braver pups, trying to see who we were and if we were trouble or not. When the hyena was in front of our car he stood on his/her hind legs and put his/her feet on our car and gave us such an intrigued stare it was fabulous. We looked at the other car and also his car was covered under muddy poor prince. We spend more than an hour at the sighting and no other car turned up. You feel one with nature at sightings like this.

Here some more pics of this sighting.

Some of the hyenas who circled our car.

Buffalo dust storm.

Image

Image

One day, when returning to Lower Sabie camp, I saw what looked like smoke. A fire :( I thought.

It was not, it was hundreds and hundreds of buffalo walking through the veld towards Sunset dam.

I was driving on the Lower Sabie road on hot muggy December day. I was in a bit of a hurry to book in.

I hit a traffic jam.

It was Leopards in love.

Image

The Leopards had others things on their minds and soon disappeared deep into the bush :( .

Twenty minutes later

further down the road, I hit another traffic jam.

More Leopards on love.

sadly, this is all I managed before they too disappeared.

Image

Four Leopards in twenty minutes

I was still grinning many minutes later when I went to book into Lower Sabie.
