Thanks for the replies everyone!

For the record - both visits were in December/January. On our first visit at the end of 2007 there was plenty of rain. It also rained on more than occasion during our stay. The birdlife was abolutely amazing then - literally thousands of Queleas, Wattled Starlings, Swallows and Bee-eaters with great numbers of White Storks, Marabous and Raptors that were after the nestlings in the breeding colonies of Queleas and Starlings.
This pic was taken in front of our campsite - the flocks of Queleas were everywhere and you heard them long before you saw them!

In 2007 we got stuck here. We had resigned ourselves that we will have to spend the night in the Cruiser when with lots of grace from above we got out. Struggled for almost four hours and got back to camp after eight that night!

Time to end this report - Mapungubwe really is a special place, well worth a visit. That is if you are not a "Big Five" hunter. For someone who can appreciate nature in its entirety, it is heaven on earth.
