On our previous visit we saw very few elephants but this time it was a different story. The first animals we saw (except for the camp visitors) were elephants. We drove the river loop and came upon a fairly large herd. They were on their way to the river but a small family group stayed behind. The reason was a small calf that needed a nap.

It was amazing to see how they patiently waited for the little one to wake up

Hi there Hilda!

We also went back towards the river, following the elephants.

Those of you that are familiar with Mapungubwe know about the barbed wire fence along the Limpopo - much has already been said about it. In my opinion it has no purpose whatsoever, it is an eyesore and pose a danger to animals and visitors alike.

On turning into the road along the fence, we found the first of the elephants already there. What followed got me really upset - why can't this fence not just be removed? :wall:

It looked like the adults helped the little ones - they got really agitated.

Hi there, Pumbaa!

Hilda  - upset is an understatement!

Our time at Mapungubwe was way too short but we just had to make time for a visit to the eastern section.
First up......

The views from here are to die for and a photograph actually do not paint the full picture

Hi there SM!

From the viewing decks one looks out over the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers with Botswana to the left of the Shashe and Zimbabwe to the right
