These two were sitting right next to the road and only had eyes for the buffalo. We could just imagine what was going through their heads! The expressions on their faces were priceless - exactly like my dog when he is expecting his food!

Look at all that food - how are we going to get our paws on some of it?!

We took lots of pics - must rate as one of the best lion sightings ever! :D

They would continuously look to the left as if expecting help to arrive. First just one of them...

Hi there Trrp-trrrrrr!

The one went down the embankment towards the buffalo

Image

The other one soon followed. By now a traffic jam was starting to build and as we were actually on our way to Phalaborwa and still want to stop at Sable Hide, we decided to leave. Just a few meters on we spotted a lone lioness on the left. There were probably more lions, but the mopanie-bush was very thick and we were highly satisfied with our sighting of the two brothers!

Sable Hide was very quiet - so sign of the Osprey that I was hoping to see there. Only a few Marabou Storks far off to the right.

So glad that you also feel that way JeanniR! :D

Against the walls of the hide there are beautiful paintings of birds

This big boy was also on his way to the water and was not impressed with us.

We decided to leave them in peace.

Thanks SL and Hilda!

Before we "discovered" the treasures of Tihongoyeni and the Tropic of Capricorn Loop, we paid a visit to Stapelkop Dam and drove the Shongolo Loop. The latter road was a big disappointment - all the pans were dry!
But the birds did not disappoint!
Stapelkop Dam road is always good for raptors
