Stallions are generally intolerant of foals that are not his - here a mother is shielding her foal form the unwelcome attentions of a grumpy stallion.

It is revered in some African cultures as a symbol of beauty.

In the dances of the Karamojong tribe in Uganda, the women would paint themselves in zebra stripes and mimic zebra behaviour

Zebras also appear on the coat of arms of Botswana.

Zebra and Blue Wildebeest are often seen grazing together. The main purpose is that of mutual protection.

They are equally dependant on water and require a long drink every day or two.

They are born tawney brown and begin to take on their adult colouration at nine weeks of age. Calves are able to stand within seven minutes and run with the herd in less than two hours from birth!

Female Wildebeest give birth in the middle of a herd rather than alone and typically in the middle of the day. The newborn babies then will have time to gain some strenght before the predators become active again after sunset.

A couple of cars were parked to the left of the waterhole. They were looking at this - unfortunately a bit far from the road.

Hi there, Cape of Storms! :D

After scanning with the bino's we realised there were four lions - two beautiful males and two females. They must have killed what we thought was a Bluewildebeest during the night.

Hi there Hilda and Trrrp-trrr!

Although there were a lot of vultures and Black-backed Jackals, the lions were closely guarding the carcass.

Cape of Storms, Philip1, Pumbaa, Hilda and Barry - thanks for the replies!

Eventually one of the lionesses got thirsty and approached the waterhole
