Sharifa - I couldnt let a chance like that go by :-)

Trrp-trrrrrrrr - Honey badgers rock

Sheenaugh-Lee - I read so much about the honey badgers at Satara and was thrilled to finally see one in action :D

One last glance at the wonderful view from our rondavel, it was fantastic to sit drinking your coffee in the morning watching the game from your own stoep..

Image

One last drive down the S100 and then down towards LS via the Sweni Hide and the S37, it was another hot and sunny day but a few hardy souls had still ventured out.

More friendly elephants...

Image

More feisty elephants, luckily busy with each other

An Out of Africa scene

Image

A cheeky chap

Image

Even the wildebeest youngsters didnt want us to leave :(

Image

And this grasshopper did his best to stop us by blocking our view through the windscreen...

Image

The baboons were offended and completely blanked us!

AndeaB, love the story and bring back memoiries of our last night stay at Satara with the view from bungalow.

Saw you did the S37 via Sweni hide to LS. I am very interested to hear how that road was as we have never done it. Guess, any road is good, as you never know what cross your way... :hmz:

Thank you for sharing your experiences an look forward to more...

@ Kaapsedraai - it is a beautiful road scenery wise, as you say there is always a bit of luck involved in being in the right place at the right time. We saw the usual suspects plus a huge herd of elephants, about 70 and then a bit further along another large herd. It is certainly a much nicer road to travel than the tar road if you have the time :-)

Love the green grass at Satara AndreaB! Lovely Ellies too, but your scene Out of Africa is absolutely superb! Awesome "cheeky chap" too!

The Blue Wildebeest youngsters are really cute! What a huge Grasshopper on your windscreen!

The Baboons really ignored you! Didn't want you to leave, but pretended not to care at all!

As we travelled down the S37 it was very quiet, a few giraffe and warthogs as well as the ubiquitous impies. I spotted an elephant or two and as I looked more closely I saw more and more, it was the biggest herd we had seen to date, around 70 ellies munching their way through the bush. No photos as the SA is becoming a real elliephobic and just wants to get past them as quickly as possible :?

Suddenly I spotted something unusual, 2 men dressed in camoflage holding some very serious looking weaponry... My heart stopped for an instant, could they be poachers?? Then the brain kicked in and I realised they must belong to the anti poaching units. Nudging the SO I hissed - smile and wave!! Waving like loonies at the men they gave us the once over and raised their arm in recognition. Sad that you have to contemplate who are the goodies or baddies whilst driving around the park but rather bump into the good guys than the dementors

A couple of miles out of Tshokwane we sat and watched this family crossing the river:

Image

Stopping off at Tshokwane we were thrilled to find it open for business this time, one large slice of carrot cake and milk tart later we headed on down towards LS stopping occasionally to meet a few of the locals:

Image

Image

This bunch posed nicely for a family photo!

Image

And this poor baby was not looking terribly healthy:

Image

Image

As we crossed the bridge the SO spotted this croc trying to finish off his dinner, he seemed to be using all his energy just to hang on to it! We waited for a while and eventually he managed to get a good grip on it and swam off, hopefully to eat it! Talk about biting off more than you can chew!

I know how SO must have felt with all those ellies because I am also elliephobic, big time.

As long as they are like the ones in the river at Tshokwane I am very happy to watch them for hours :D

Lovely sighting of the croc

I feel that this next sighting deserves a solo billing so please enjoy.

We got up earlyish and decided to take the tar road from LS up to Skukuza, we had planned to go off on the S21 but like many other roads it was still closed. We approached a small bridge when we saw 2 cars had stopped, I immediately saw a buffalo resting and some rhino sleeping and I began snapping away when one of the drivers told us there was a lion. It was still quiet on the road and we pulled to the side and started scanning the grass. I looked and then looked again not quite believing my eyes, this didnt much look like a lion...

Image

Then it got a whole lot better....

Image

Image

Image

Mom stared heading for a stream whilst her baby jumped through the grass playing and enjoying his/her outing and then ran to catch up again

Image

Image

She circled the edge of the stream trying to find the best place and once she had, she gave an almighty leap and landed on a small sandbank in the middle.

Image

Image

Image

Image

From there she then gingerly picked her way through the ankle deep ( :hmz: ) water and stood on the other side calling to her cub

Image

The cub looked at her and then with no hesitation plunged into the water, splashing his/her way across to mommy where together they melted into the undergrowth.... :D

Wow AndreaB! What a gorgeous sighting! You had such a great view of mom and baby, and your pictures are awesome! I would give my two front teeth for a sighting like that! Absolutely beautiful!

Back to your previous episode when my connection was so poor, I simply could not post a comment yesterday afternoon!

You had so many beautiful sightings, with Ellies, a huge Wartie, awesome birds, a not-well baby Giraffe, with the cherry on top, a Croc with a fish almost as big as himself!

Thanks for sharing all these beautiful sightings with us.
