That comical inhabitant of the KNP refused to come out of the shade

And that guy from whom SA could learn a few labour laws

And a good few more Big tuskers (why does he have to be on the road????)

Zebra grazing contentedly

While the curry is stewing on the stove, let's see if we can finish this day 3.
A sizable herd of Buffalo waltzing past.
Image

With a few teenagers- well maybe not-but the horns are there already.
Image

These two decided to settle disputes the "manne"way.
Image

Enough time for a quick excursion to a hide close by, where I was welcomed by that awesome trrrp-trrrr sound. Found him quick enough
Image

Then I had a Hippo snarl at me-never seen it before
Image

Image

Here mom was teaching a youngster some lesson in jaw fights.
Image

He stopped when he heard a few clicking sounds
Image

And then as I leave, an Elephant close by-it was not there when I arrived. Just to stress me out :hmz:

Some McDonalds
Image

Here's the second image I saw of the Impala with that growth-sorry not the best pic.
Image

And back on the tar road, a traffic jam up ahead. Big cat for sure. And so it proved, but it was far away, and in shade. But I managed to get a shot or two.
Image

Image

Image

Only when I downloaded and edited the pics did I see that there were actually two of them- guess that is reason enough for a big traffic jam.
Image

A leopard is a leopard as the saying goes here.

And can be nicer than this.
Image

Plus preening
Image

And I still wanted to get to Sunset Dam.

And Transport Dam was once again visited by the troop-of-trouble baboons. No sundowners again this evening.
The hippos were-well, yawning
Image

Or just chillin
Image

And one more from the baboons
Image

Well that ends day 3. Quick swim, shower, supper download the pics to the external hard drive and its off to snoreland, with the intention of being out and about by 04:30 in the morning.

Good night.

A good nights rest, i'm up and about by 3:45, gotta pack everything as I'm spending the night in Pretoriuskop again. Coffee and rusks, a quick shower (amazing having a shower so early in the morning-the best part is seeing other "zombies" come ambling to the shower after you've finished and you can see it all over their face-BLIKSEM-I'm a nutcase!) and i'm off to enjoy some more magic. Thoughts are of course centered around what will I see today, but still keeping it in mind that I am here to enjoy what Ms Kruger shares-no stress about not seeing lions by day 3, and only one sighting of leopards. ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY is the motto on this trip at any rate.
Gotta take a shot of that fast flowing river-again
Image

An early morning ellie
Image

Early morning Shrike.
Image

And a European Roller
Image

Swainson Francolin
Image

and a first for me   Black Bellied Korhaan. Which did not stick around much.

And that other bird which I always want to see-they are sooo beautiful
Image

And
Image

And
Image

This one still had the evidence of last nights party on its back
Image

And then one of the hightlights of the trip and an animal I have not seen in quite a while.  Reedbuck.
Image

They were on honeymoon and quite suspicious of my intrusion
Image

Image

Beautiful creatures to make a beautiful day
Image

These rock buntings are forever on the road in front of you, and when you stop for a pic, they disappear, so had to do some zooming. Cute birds.
Image

This one, like me, was enjoying the early morning quietness.

Swallows on the road
Image

Image

I think its a greater striped Swallow-please correct me if I am wrong.

Time to get off the tar road and get some dust into the lungs
And lo and behold, another Black Bellied Korhaan, this one equally suspicious, but at least it did not fly off or disappear, but allowed me to come close enough for some shots. Everytime I stopped the care it moved off a few meters, resulting in us playing I-follow-you-if-you-follow-me kind of game.
Image

Image

This shot shows the lack of Chevrons on the back
Image

And how nice to see two of these together

I have even more appreciation for this sighting, after reading that wonderful thread on these birds by Duke. Amur Falcon - Male
Image

Female
Image

Not sure if this is the same species, too brown for Amur Falcon, so i'll opt for Lesser Kestrel.
Image

Image

There was an abundance of these in the Park- the boomslangs have been on diet.
Image

Just had to see him/her safely to the grass, not that there any cars around. Saw my first car two hours later. Wonderful
Image

And our dear and special friends.
Image

Image

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Good night.

OK, I think I have time enough to do one more post tonight.
So I am chillin on this road somewhere in Kruger. It's 07:13 in the morning, the tummy i s rumbling so I stop and ask an oke if I can join him for breakfast. He had a scrumptious breakfast at hand.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Not a morsel did I get in all of the 15 minutes I spent watching this theatrical display  . By then it had still not swallowed the poor locust. Seems the idea is to toss and toss it until all the harder parts are broken off. What a wonderful way to spend an early morning. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

And to add more pleasure to the morning, nothing like seeing one of these.
Image

Nkumbe once again had little, except a butterfly, and I did not have my macro lens with me, so this is taken with 500mm Zoom lens. Not the best.

Here's some for nostalgia

The Road to Tshokwane

Good night!

Orpen Dam next on the cards where I see that curious, if somewhat elusive and suspicious bird
Image

Quite a big family, with some small ones, but they were being very well hidden, could only get fleeting glances
Image

Image

Image

And another nostalgic image- Crumbs how many times I have been here! Since at least 1990.

Time to leave Orpen Dam and head for Tshokwane, for breakfast. The tummy was giving the local lions a run for their money when it comes to roaring. Just below the dam, Trrp-Trrrrr's family came in for a landing right next to the road  Don;t know about anyone else, but just can't get enough of this bird-those colours.
Image

Image

Tshokwane itself has a resident?? Yellow billed kite that is seen there regularly, today it was hovering around looking for food.
Image

Image

And then watched the monkeys steal some peoples food. They are so quick to see a gap in concentration and before you know it, they had those peoples bread. Phew, I watched my food like the proverbial Hawk. Been there, done that, and lost my bread twice already. There were quite a few youngsters learning the trade.
Image

Image

And a reminder of ... me
Image

Breakfast was good! So on the road again!

And a Kudu bull on the way to Skuks before Leeupan.

Image

and something to remind me to stick to the speed limit.

Here's the reason to keep to the speed limit

Last post for tonight- so onto Skukuza.
And heard this fellow before I tracked him down. Roberts described its song "one of the best avian singers in the world" I gladly concur. Heuglin's Robin. Another first for me
Image

Image

A bumble Bee of sorts
Image

And off to do that walk along the river- this time specifically to find the Green Pigeon- which I found
Image

Image

Image

And an old dagga boy resting in the safety of the river.
Image

Good night.

And so onto Lake Panic, and first to greet me, or is that to scare me
Image

And have never seen a wasp drinking water before.
Image

The Goliath heron was in hide and seek mode today, and stayed well hidden in the thick foilage. Barely got to see it, and that only after someone else pointed it out to me.
Image

Image

Image

Finally got a chance to get that Heron in flight.
