Time for some lammetjies

And so onto Lake Panic where I hear a strange knocking sound and recognised it as that of a woodpecker. Eventually tracked it down, but difficult to get a shot, it was in the shadows and high in the tree. This is the best I could get before it flew off.

And so back to the best spot in all of Kruger, if not the universe  Lake Panic, and what will it have to offer this time.

The Chairman of the welcoming comittee was sleeping on the job

And my little friend, the Tawnyflanked Prinia was still busy feeding da brood. This time I was able to capture her with some grub
Image

Image

And the not-often-seen @ LP- Giant Kingfisher. Well, I have not seen it there regularly.

And moving along to LS, where I intended to book in, unpack and rest before going on a late afternoon drive. A troop of Baboons in the riverbed
Image

This one a bit shy of his vital statistics
Image

And yet another locust in the car  I am getting pretty worried about all these insects that keep coming on unsolicited visits. Maybe I should consider closing the windows :hmz:
Image

And that most majestic of our eagles-no chance he'll ever come into the car.
Image

A vulture

And that other eagle that matches teh Martial in the majestic stakes

And just before LS
A hippo grazing-unusual to see it so far from water.
Image

Some more Ellies
Image

Mr Sinister himself was patrolling the waters of Sunset Dam.
Image

And after a two hour break, I was off again-travelling down Mativuhlungu Loop.
Red Backed Shrikes are just plain wonderful, photogenic birds.
Image

And another one-off chance with a Red billed Quellea
Image

And another Vulture far away in the middle distance of nowhere land
Image

Also saw a beautiful Black shouldered Kite, and just as I am preparing to take a few shots, it flies off. I have a suitable expression for such occasions! Kom terug jou VUILUIL! (Come back you DIRTYOWL) He did show himself again in somewhat more wonderful circumstances. I had to retract my VUILUIL! That will have to wait till later.

Ok, now that the authority structures of president and vice president have been sorted, another dose. Nothing much on Mativuhlungu Loop but towards the end of the road....
For Pumbaa- a cutie
Image

Image

back on the tar road
Image

These people were being just plain silly- look at how close this car is to the elephant. Makes me angry to see this. Good thing they were going in the opposite direction to me I would have :sniper: :sniper:
Image

Some more lammetjies.
Image

Image

And a magnificient Kudu Bull
Image

The rollers were on a roll :slap:

Image

He did not like the idea and give the a skeptical once over

Some Zebra
Image

Image

This little Lamb had a problem. at first I thought those were overdeveloped testosterone sacs. Probably an infection of sorts. It walked awkwardly, and did not seem too happy. I saw another one like this-possibly the same one?

These youngsters were having a romp under the protections of mom and aunts.

I mentioned earlier the VUILUIL Black Shouldered Kite-Saw it descend to the ground, quite a distance away, and I knew it had made a kill, and just waited a few minutes and sure enough, up it flew again with what was probably a snake, though it could have been a monitor lizard, and without the binocs, it was difficult. Nevertheless, what a pleasure it was watching it devour its food.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then it was giving the beak a good clean
Image

Whereafter if flew off to another tree close by, and basked in the golden sunlight.
Image

Image

Now you can understand why I had to retract my vuiluil. Now it changed to "jou pragtige ding!" (you beautiful thing'.

Let's finish the day-
Not the kind of sighting I want at the end of the day when I'm heading for camp.
Image

A beautiful Fish eagle
Image

Arrived, along with so many others, at Sunset dam, wanting just to absorb that beautiful place. A lot of folk like to have a sundowner here, windows open and camera clicking. It was not to be today, as a rather large troop of baboons decided they also want to enjoy sundowners-so little chance for open windows and drinks. Everybody on high alert, and others taking the opportunity to get acquainted with cousins twice removed. So did I.
Image

This one must have been in a terrible fight

Last batch for the day
Would have liked this sharper-but shooting through the window does present some challenges.

The youngsters were adorable-and to think they have all the potential to be robbers and thieves. FOr now, they are safe with mommy!

Thank you very much Trrp-Trrrr, MM, Sheenaugh-Lee (ek lag so baie) NetEk, Barry and Hilda. Appreciate your comments and keeping up with this TR. NetEk, baie welkom hier!

Had a good nights rest, good supper, and very satisfied with the sightings of the day, and ready to tackle a 04:30 start in the morning, which I managed. It was gonna be a long day of driving. But as always, excited just to be there, and not overly concerned with what Madam Kruger would serve today. Sticking to the plan of just enjoying whatever comes along my path. The intention is to travel towards Skukuza, until the turnoff to Tsokwane, and return to LS, hoping to see the wild dogs that were spotted on this road. Then it was off to Molodnozi Dam and Muntshe Loop, in hope to see some cheetahs, which I have not seen in a few years.

Missed out on the sunrise. :rtm:

But Kruger soon made up for that with this beauty
Image

The usual early morning suspect
Image

Image

Look at that thickset neck
Image

Breakfast was calling already
Image

Another Raptor
Image

A large family of Guinea fowl-teenagers and youngsters included.

Mom as alert as a mom should be in these dangerous places.
