The next part of our day made up for all the sadness of the previous afternoon. As we approached the same spot where the dead faun was born we see what we were waiting for yesterday! Another newborn!! He must have just been born when we arrived... he had not even stood up yet!

Image

Immediately he was named Pumpkin by my girls!

Pumpkin is terribly wobbly!

Image
Face Plant!!
Image

Mom gives a helping shove to get pumpkin up and going!
Image

Horns can be handy too! Image

MOM!!! enough cleaning... I can do this walking thing!!!
Image

Whoooo hoooooooo I can stand by myself!
Image

Image

And now I am off.

Time join up with the rest of my herd!
Image

Amongst all the excitement of pumpkin coming into this world alive and kicking we could still feel the sadness of the mom who lost her faun the day before.

This poignant picture shows the life and death in the Kgalagadi.

Image

The mom was still trying to get the baby up after 24hours.

Brilliant sequence of 'getting into the real world' 'Pumpkin' shots of the springbok. :cam: :cam: :cam:

I can just imagine the feeling, sitting there and whilst this is happening, you firing away to capture these brilliant moments for us and above all, now we having the privilege to see it as well.
This moment must have been a high light for the girls. :hmz:

Thank you, Cape of Storms
