Let's carry on! :hmz:

Day 10: Twee Rivieren

As I said, we headed back to the cheetahs, and boy oh boy were we in for a cheetahlicious afternoon!!

First we found them lying under a different tree than before, close to the road on the Namib side of the Auob river.

Soon afterwards they got up and transferred to the other side of the road...

After sitting with them for about half an hour on that side of the road...they got up and started to walk towards Batulama.

This is when the fun started!

(I will continue with the cheetah epicness once the page has turned...any takers? )

Thanks for bumping the page Hilda  :gflower:

So...where was I?
Yes, the cheetahs were walking towards Batulama (which was some distance away).
All of a sudden - a burst of energy as the 3 youngsters start chasing each other and playing in a frantic 3 minutes that felt like a second. And they came so close that my I only saw blurred spots through my viewfinder   :cam: :cam:

... ...I did wish that I had taken my 1.4x teleconverter off before this happened but you never can predict where the action will go, didn't think for once they'd come straight towards us...

Oh and we were the only vehicle there!

Let's finish this...

Day 10: Twee Rivieren

Still with the cheetahs...as they walked towards Batulama. Eventually we HAD to leave in order to make the gates at Twee Rivieren in time.

Our last morning of the trip...

Day 11: Twee Rivieren

We decided to drive to Rooiputs and back.
At this stage the new road wasn't finished yet and you had to get on the Botswana road just past Leeuwdril. For some strange reason the waterhole was also closed for access, though there was a road going there...

First up we came across an African Wild Cat next to the road.

Image

Then we saw 3 male cheetahs disappear over the dunes on the SA side (we were already on the Botswana road).

Image

And to top our trip off we came across the Rooiputs pride - at Rooiputs waterhole, where we couldn't drive into. We missed some great moments in great light... :wall: :wall:

Image

Image

Luckily they started moving towards us. The gravel piled up for road construction spoiled the photos but provided some fun for the cubs...

The grass really was exceptionally long this time - check this out:

Right next to us!

They moved to the Botswana side and vanished into the grass.

Image

Eventually the big boy on the dunes also came across...

Image

He's a beautiful male - called Mufasa Junior and is regularly seen between Rooiputs and Kij Kij. We were parked in by 2 other vehicles so we couldn't get better shots of him as he approached...

(but I would get great shots of him on our November 2012 trip...my next report you see :hmz:  )

We found another lioness walking towards Rooiputs from the south as we turned around to leave.
And then the trip was over!

Thanks for following along!!!
