Dear Aat,
I am coming to a weird conclusion reading your stories , including the previous stories I found at the other page. I think you are addicted to knp but the animals are addicted to you too.
Do you find them or do they find you is my question :hmz: :hmz:
Reading the comments many people see most of the "rare" species once in an while but for you it is like seeing them every trip even more then once in one trip.
I am really happy for you because you share all these wonderful moments with us. Thanks !

@ ALL

Thanks very much for all the nice and warm comments !!
I really appreciate it and I am honoured with the all of them and all new "faces" among the comments.

I am really sorry that I just can't reply to all individually because of my job / work at the moment. I can't even spend time for my passion The Tuskers.

I will try to add a new story this weekend that's all I can do for now.

*** NEW Stories ***
Like my previous TR’s, this is not going to be a day to day TR, but a series of stories about animals and special situations based on our last trip from november 11th 2012 till december 9th 2012.

Story 07 – BC Diaries – Mothers & Cubs -

Hi again and happy to see you for a new story. I better can say it’s about two stories.
One story about a Leopard mother and her cub and second one about a Cheetah mother with two little cubs.
I think I said something in my first story of this trip about having seen animals we have never seen before. As you know we have seen cheetah before but never little cheetah cubs, so a first time for them.

If you like… welcome on board and please join us with these great sightings. :) :)

Let’s start in Mopani. One of the few times we followed the Shongololo loop all the way.
It was late afternoon when we arrived near the “hide” close to Mopani when suddenly something came from the side of the road … crossing the road in front of me and walked away to the hill , opposite of the “hide”. Cheetah ? no… Leopard ? yessss
Stop…camera and action … :cam:

-
Image
-

It’s a female Leopard. What a day… earlier that day we saw Cheetah and how the two Cheetah friends or brothers were re-united and now a Leopard. The Leopard did not stop but continued climbing the hill.

-
Image
-

Was she going out for hunting ? They never tell you anything so it’s guessing. Following her all the way and hoping for a few nice shots

-
Image
-

Come on my dear….please stop for a few seconds…. But no chance… climbing higher and higher

-
Image
-

Last shot before she was hiding behind rocks and bush

-
Image
-

So, time for a little break in this story… this day , 29th of november was a very very nice day.
We spent a few more nights in Mopani with other great sightings and on our last day (december 2nd ) before we took off for Satara we went to this place again early in the morning.
Why going there … Just by 6th sense I think.
At exactly same place we looked around and could not believe our eyes…. There high on the hill our Leopard again and something with her… a kill or …? :hmz: :hmz:

-
Image
-

No !! She has a cub. Ahhhhh so that’s was the reason a few days ago she went up there.
We never have been spoiled with many leopard cubs so trying to capture them. Not easy with the distance.

-
Image
-

Like us you have to look well but so nice to see a small leopard cub

-
Image
-

Mother was getting up and the little one was looking… mom…are you going ?

-
Image
-

Mother left the youngster alone and I guess the cub did not like this at all

-
Image
-

Last thing we could see that the cub tried to follow moms… so small and gone in the bush up there

-
Image
-

End of first story
Time for a coffee ? Or shall I continue with second story ?

Second story – Mother Cheetah and cubs

It’s late afternoon in Satara. It’s hot… and doubting about a late afternoon drive after a very nice day so far. Doubting mainly means …yess , let’s go for a drive. Driving around we finally decided to take the S40 (behind Satara camp) and not the main road. I remember we were talking about maybe seeing a rhino in that area.
Coming from Timbavati picknick spot side we were driving just a few minutes and with a lot of luck I just looked to the left and ……… huhhhhhhhhhh ????

-
Image
-

Pounding heart… and quiet…. Unbelieve but true… a cheetah cub and mother behind a little bush. I think moms did not like it at all and started to move

-
Image
-

Then everything went fast… mother crossed the road and expected her babies following her but they did not.
So moms was looking to the other side of the road and tried to call her cubs

-
Image
-

Looking at her… she was looking like… Mhhh where are my children? :hmz:

-
Image
-

Cubs did not show and were not visible so a try to call louder ?

-
Image
-

Still no sign … mother did not understand this and was looking a bit confused :?

-
Image
-

Well… what can you do as mother if your cubs don’t react … yes, you go to them and get them

-
Image
-

She was just at the other side , called and returned quickly to the other side of the road again.
And finally…. Yesssssssssssssssss there they are…. The Cubs…..
Nr 1

-
Image
-

And a few seconds later Nr 2

-
Image
-

and a last look before all 3 disappeared in the high grass

-
Image
-

What a day …. What a time in kruger …what …. No words…just happy , very very happy with this sighting…. So great to see cheetah cubs in the wild….

Writing this story I almost feel the emotion again. Many trips to kruger, spent many many days there and seeing this first time …it’s a miracle and a privilage.

Thanks for joining us hope you liked it.
Many more BC diary stories to come

Aat & Elly

Aat, how precious :D look at those little Cheetah run. They already have the spring that will one day make them creatures of grace and speed.

Beautiful, beautiful images, thank you.

Btw I up to now did not see any single leopard cub, Aat

What a great sighting of the spotted ones so close to the hide - That area is indeed made for leopards

The cheetahs are gorgeous and Mom is beautiful - I always love their fluffy little manes cheetah cubs do have

Once again you always know where to look and then the luck is being with you

Oh that is so cute, Aat. All three those cubs are still very young. So cute. Like the light "manes" on the cheetah-babies. You guys were lucky indeed - very special sightings!

Aat, as we have come to expect, great stories and amazing photo's. Really a pleasure to read and look - and then to wait for your next visit! Our good friends, Knotts, and us are off to KNP in May for 5 weeks. My friend has copied your info for the South, so hope to find some of the tuskers. Thanks for
sharing once again.

Hi All,
Back home after 4 weeks of Kruger. We are just back , from nice and warm weather in Kruger back into wintertime in the netherlands.

We have had a great time with a "few" nice sightings.

On the search for (Big) Tuskers we met some other animals   so I guess I can start writing some stories soon if you like :hmz:

The first animals we saw at arrival were a rhino mother with baby and the last one when leaving Kruger was a rhino too.... let's hope this is a sign they will survive and win the battle !!

During the trip we met several forumites, it was an honour to see the people behind the names and avatars
Two of them were witness of the fact I am not just a Tusker whisperer ....  , but that will be part of a nice story later on.
It was weird to experience some people recognized me when I was photographing tuskers.... suddenly hearing "You must be Aat ....." happened two times  :) :) :)

In general.... We had wonderful sigthings, some special ones , some very unexpected (the best you can have) including animals / situations we never saw before and.... usual roadblocks and "special" roadblocks.....

Curious ? If so.... I will consider to start a new series of stories soon

Go for it Aat and include some pics if you can . Im also lookng forward to 4 weeks in KNP -- AT LAST !!! Moose1

Hi Aat, just caught up again with your stories. Lovely leopard and cheetah cubs and also the lion pride on the S100. Beautiful sable and roan. I saw one roan at Babalala in November last year - but very far from Mopani.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics.

MM,
Thanks.... It was really special to see them. The little cheetah cubs in an area with high grass at that moment. We felt so lucky they showed themselves :) :)
