What are the chances of getting all those birds at one place - nevermind in one shot! :cam: Lovely pics!

Also love the jakkalsies - they are just such cute little things... when they are little! :D

Hello Lionspoon,

I should have checked the forum for KTP trip reports more often, because then I would not have missed the start of your great trip report.
The little jackals are extremely cute. They look like little dogs :D
Your lion pics are also great.
And you captured the beautiful landscape very well.
We have returned 3 weeks ago and already miss the Kalahari again :o So I especially enjoy KTP trip reports :D

Waiting for the next installment

I'll post a new epsisode first and get back to your numerous replies afterwards.

So, we're still on our way to Grootkolk and if I had thought the sightings couldn’t get any better after the raptor party at Cubitje, I was taught the opposite at Polentswa: At least 11 bateleurs of all ages, 2 tawnies and 7 secretaries where hanging out together either around the waterhole or in the surrounding trees. WOW!   (Get ready for a bateleur overload… )

Image
Count the bateleurs in the tree…

Image

They were absolutely everywhere:

This looks like a very fresh one?

And they even had some flashers among them

I love the little Jackals and of course all these Eagles, Vultures, Secretaries

We were definitely blessed with that sighting (and the one that is now in as well). They seemed to be rather regular customers at both waterholes as others reported seeing lots of bateleurs at Polentswa as well and we got to see a bigger gathering of vultures at some later point in our trip. But I messed up the photos… Thoroughly.

It must have taken some manouvering to get the 4 in 1 shot....well done (Spots?)

Actually, Spots didn’t have to maneuver at all. They were nicely sitting there and patiently waiting for me and my camera.

Jackal pups again......too cute for words!! What a stunning sighting of vultures, secretaries and bataleur all together in one shot.....and of course Mr Jackal

Even more jackals to come at some later stage.

Then all those stunning raptors at the waterhole 8) 8) 8)
I love the pic of the young bateleur looking right at you :cam:
Can't wait for the next sudden exciting sighting

Well, the next sudden sighting is already in. But there is more to come in the long run.

Stunning sighting at the waterhole! Two kinds of Vultures, and so many Secretary Birds plus a Bateleur with a BBJ in the picture too! Fantastic! That doesn't happen every day!
Awesome pictures Lionspoon! :D

Thanks, hilda. :D As you can see from my comments, I was pretty chuffed with this wonderful encounter as well.

How wonderful to be able to tick lappet-faced vulture off your wishlist. 8)
The secretary birds always have such a stately walk..... just love them. :D
Thanks for sharing.

Agree on the stately walk. But they are beautiful birds as well, methinks. Which can’t be said about vultures  but they are majestic, that’s for sure.

Hi Lionspoon and Spots of course.
It was great bumping into you guys all over the park.
You are so right there were some crazy people there at the time.
Maybe it was the heat.
None more so than Steve, the Pom from Oz, who seemed to be very happy spending three months alone in his tiny one man tent and even tinier car, surrounded by what looked like very expensive camera and computer equipment.
Thanks for bringing back the memories in your great TR.

enrico, thanks for hopping on board and glad you made it home safely. Do tell about the rest of your journey! How did you get on with the cheetahs?

Ja, Steve is a really extraordinary person

Just caught up with your TR, mind if I come along for the ride? AMAZING :cam: I'm glad those jackal pups made another appearance for you. Great shots! They only gave us the one chance :wall:
Thanks for the kind words in your intro, but I'll let you in on a secret...KTP is doing us the favour by allowing us to be part of the program and definately not the other way around!! Isn't it amazing how instant the connection is when chatting with people you meet that share the same interests! Would do anything to have an impromptu mini-meet somewhere in KTP right now
It seems as if everybody that was in KTP at that time, had a lot of firsts. I know we certainly did
Ready for the next installment
Carine

Hi Carine! KTP doing you a favour or not – I still think your engagement noteworthy!
Curious to hear what you got to see on your last drives after the second week of Kids in the Park had ended!
