So, Heksie came over the other night for an MMC and we decided to have a quick weekend getaway to Marakele!

We've booked a spot at Bontle Camping site for next Friday and Saturday nights (24 and 25 May). The plan of attack is that Heksie will come over to me next Friday afternoon when she finishes work (around 2pm) and we'll head off on our new adventure!

We are both Marakele virgins so have no idea what to expect. We know it won't be Kruger, but we are looking forward to spectacular scenery and a chilled (and no doubt chilly!) weekend away from the city.

Any words of wisdom, advice, tips and hints are welcome.

We hope to do a short, "live" TR from the park ...

Word of advice .. no MMCs before you drive up the mountain.. its not advised None on top either as you have to drive down the same way .. and enjoy yourselves

No tips, as we haven't been there ourselves, but I look forward to hearing all about it!!

Maybe you'll find that elusive "Brownie"!!!!

LOL Hugh!!! I assume you are talking about the road up to where you can see the vulture colony? We read a bit about it on the website the other night and are VERY excited!!!

Hi Val! Funny you should mention the "Brownie" ... that's one of the things that apparently you should look out for!!!

Thats the one wendyA. Its a must . and they have a nice bench at the top Take some hot coffee and biccies and cameras and you can watch the birdies catch the thermals .. and when you go there you will see why I say no MMC well for the one who is driving anyway. Lots of other birdies too. Hope you see your brownie

Fab! We are both very excited and really looking forward to it. As you know, we are both bird-lovers, so I'm sure we won't be disappointed even if we STILL don't find our brownie!!!

I will follow your adventure with keen interest as we plan to visit it later this year for the first time.

So sorry, no tips or advice from us.

Sure it is going to be another wonderful adventure. ..Never been there but have grabbed a spare seat, onboard to explore with you.

Any idea of what route you're going to take to get there?
Chilly? well, we think that it is chilly when the temp. goes below 20C and freezing when it hits 10C
Nights will be cool enough for some Amarula night caps but you won't (shouldn't?) get frost...............

Take a warm jacket when you go up the mountain! No matter what the temperature is at Bontle, it's usually freezing up there.
