Welcome to Kruger my son

Unread postby PietSkiet » Fri Sep 19, 2014 10:20 am

I am boiling over with excitment. We are leaving for our annual Kruger holiday in a couple of hours. Things have been hectic the last month or so and I was barely able visit the forums, but did glance through trip reports now and then to get the blood flow pumping.
Today we will only be traveling up to Hazyview and enter either at Phabeni or Paul Kruger Gate tomorrow. For the first time there is no fixed plan and we are just going to relax.
This trip is special to me for a couple of reasons:
1. It is SO and my 10th trip together going to Kruger. Each one was special before and I am sure this one will be to.
2. I am introducing the latest member of our family to Kruger, boy number 3 was born little over a month ago.
3. My parents will be joining us, and it is always good having 3 generations sitting around the same fire.

We are staying 4 nights in Lower Sabie, and I am very exited about this. We usually stop their during the middle of the day but haven't had the oppurtunity yet to drive the roads around camp early morning and late afternoon.

I am also banking on a couple of good omens to continue:
The previous time my parents joined us we saw Roan for the first time ever. A brand new specie will go down nicely and in the LS region I am hoping for Serval or a Cape Clawless otter.
My eldest was 11 months old when we introduced him to Kruger and we saw our first Kruger Wild dogs on day 1 as we neared Olifants camp. My second was also a month old when he got introduced to Kruger and we saw our second Kruger wild dogs 30 minutes after entering Phabeni Gate. So we are realy hoping that this trend to continue and we can find our 4th Wild Dog sighting on trip number 10.

All and all very excited and I will report back on our return

Hey there sound like you are going to have a great time in the Kruger with your new addition.
I am extremely keen to know about your experiences of travelling in the park with young kids as we are planning to visit Kruger next August and will be taking our baby along for his first holiday, he should be about 7 months by then.

Can't believe that yesterday this time I was having a lovely roosterkoek at Skukuza and now I am sitting behind my desk at the office.
We are back from a fantastic trip, and eventhough it was short we thoroughly enjoyed it with some fantastic sightings.
Will just need some time to sort out all the photos and I also have some deadlines on assignments that I need to hand in on a course I did recently, but hopefully I will not let you wait for too long.
