Thank you for the kind comments

This is my only decent shot(background not perfect) of the Giant Kingfisher at LP to date. May be next time...

Thank you Hilda and MarkusF

The heron and the Thick-billed Weaver protecting his nest.
Think it is a Common Squacco Heron. It is to small for a Purple Heron
If I am right it is my first ever sighting at LP

Those Giant kingfishers are beautiful birds and you have captured a great one here.
I had never seen one of them at Lake Panic...maybe in Dec'13.

The Common Squacco heron - could it perhaps be a Little bittern? I might be wrong here. :hmz:

You had captured the action brilliantly.

Thank you for sharing.

Beautifully captured Jan!

I tend to agree with your ID of a Common Squacco Heron Jan, but that is just my humble opinion according to pictures in my bird guides. I have never seen one in real life!

The Little Bittern's wings seem too dark Kaapsedraai? :hmz:

Hi Jan & Co!

I promised a long time ago that I would add my tuppence worth to this thread and I see that Jan is getting tired of being the only contributor.

These were taken in November last year. Unfortunately the light wasn't with me but it's amazing how well digital cameras perform in poor light conditions.

Golly approach and landing....
