Satara to Lower Sabie continued.... :D

After lunch it was decision time again :?
Do we take the H10 tar road or do some dirt road loops along the way? :hmz:

As it was very hot by then we decided to take the tar, thinking we wouldn't see much out in the heat of the day anyway. And if we made good time to Lower Sabie we could still go out for an afternoon drive

Had a slight hold up for this giraffe bum brigade
Again, another of Dad's fantastic photos :cam:
Image

Stopped at Orpen Dam and wished we'd had our lunch there instead of in the company of the porta-loos at Tshokwane.
What a gorgeous place to sit still for a while
Image
Image

And here we saw one of my favourite South African skinks :D :D
A female rainbow skink
Image
Image

Next stop was the Nkumbe look-out where the scenery was stunning 8) 8)
Image

Driving towards Lower Sabie and the scenery just seemed to get better
Image

Had another stop at a waterhole where we saw a grey heron :D
Image

And a white-backed duck (??) with little ones :D :D
Image

Finally made it to Lower Sabie gate at 3.30pm
Image

Check-in for our 3 night stay was smooth and boy were we excited about seeing our river front safari tent :D :D

But oh dear :?
Yes, it had a lovely view of the river
However, even a quick glance around as we were dropping off our gear told us that it was in quite a state of disrepair.
Nothing like the tent we'd stayed in at Punda.

Nonetheless, we didn't have time to survey the tent condition, we had lions to find!!

Another great day in Kruger   . Beautiful rhino and kudu pic's  . Yes the lookout at Orpen dam is quite beautiful and the same with Nkumbe   . That is one of the main reasons why me and my SO (Hilda) have to visit Kruger at least twice per year. The scenery is just unbelievable   . Thanks for sharing  .

So glad you got a very close Rhino Melph68! What an awesome picture your dad took of him! And what a beautiful set of horns that Kudu has!

The Lilac Breasted Rollers are beautiful!

We also thought those were the cleanest Porta Loos ever. That lady does a very good job.

Stunning scenery pictures Melph! :D

hi all
as melph said our tent accom was somewhat run down but my trusty leatherman was well used repairing shower heads, screwing down floor boards, fixing stoves and so on it appears to me that one should not go
to knp without one apart from the above we had a great time.

melphs dad
best wishes to all.

You are making my longing worse with your wonderful photos and descriptions. I sat in the office but I'm in Kruger with you travelling down the H10.

Love the pics of Orpen dam, can you imagine that it was nearly dry last November :o The H10 is a very scenic road and can have great sightings in store (even lions)! I hope you saw some more cats and Rhinos in the lower sabie region, it's not so easy to avoid them down there

Love your little cutie, Mel, and the giraffe bum shot :D

Orpen dam is looking lovely. The last time I was there it was all covered with some awful water weed.

Enjoying your TR immensely.

Lovely rhino and love the giraffe bum shots! Great camera work there - mel's dad! And then you have a leatherman too! Now you've just gotten into my SO's good books - as he always quotes their slogan - "Leatherman - now you're ready!"

Love the Lower Sabie area - hope you enjoyed it as much as we do!

Sorry to hear that the accomm wasn't up to standards. :?

Orpen Dam looks lekker. Never been there myself.

As you are at LS now, I'm looking forward to piccies from Sunset Dam.
One of my favourite in Kruger.
