Hi Forumites,
Our first night at Biyamiti has arrived - at last! We had a wonderful, cloudy with drizzle and rainy day, and not too hot. Firstly, I must tell you - the yellow ribbon works! We have made sure that we got the brightest yellow ribbon that nobody can miss. We entered Kruger at Malelane gate at 09:20 this morning, and met Inge on her way to Malelane for some shopping, whereafter she headed back to Skukuza. Although we did not see the big five today, we saw the following:

Ten minutes after meeting Inge, we saw two white rhinos, and about 100 metres further on, four more white rhinos.

At 11:15, a drunk elephant, possibly due to too many maroelas, staggered across the road, chasing a corolla!

Later on we found about 25 buffalo with only one baby. One buffalo looked like an albino. A Klipspringer posed for us, whereafter we found several single male elephants, lots of impala with many young ones, giraffe, warthog, hippos, etc.

The grass is very high and everything is overgrown, which means that you will have to drive very slow to be able to see the animals.

We have unpacked, and is busy getting our braai ready, and heading ior an early night.

Thanks for all the good wishes everybody! We are having a great time! We could not get in onto the internet at Biyamiti, due to no signal. We have just arrived at Lower Sabie, and booked in at no. 24, which has a great view of the Sabie river with lots and lots of water in it. Hippos are snorting in front of our bungalow.
We had great sightings of elephant, buffalo, lions, lots of rhino, etc., but are still searching for leopard and wild dogs, which we will hopefully find tomorrow. We intend to drive from LS to Phabeni, where all the leopards and wild dog sightings were indicated on the sighting maps in the different camps for the past four days.
I must tell you about the yellow ribbon! On Saturday evening while we were braaiing, a man came to introduce himself because he saw the yellow ribbon on our vehicle! His name is Enrico from Plettenberg Bay, accompanying two friends from America, and another friend from Limpopo! Although he didn't have a yellow ribbon on his friend's vehicle, (he is a forumite) he still recognised ours. On Sunday night he came over again to tell us about his day, and that he saw the big five which we didn't. He was thrilled because he saw a leopard walking next to the road for the first time in his life, and not only the tail when it was running into the bushes. What a nice man!
Unfortunately I cannot put on any pictures, because I don't know how. I will, however, practise when we are back home. I have the most beautiful picture of a juvenile Martial Eagle, as well as a baby chameleon (approximately 5 centimetres from tip to tail) which took about 20 minutes to cross the road! Hopefully we will report back tomoprrow night about the big five and wild dogs!

Nope! No cats or dogs today! We did however, came across a road block consisting of 4 adult rhinos and 1 baby, fast asleep across the road. This was close to Skukuza, and it was about 7:00. After a while we have decided to turn back and take the cause way around the "road block". We didn't want to wake them up.
Another special sighting was a Lizard Buzzard, and also a few more beautiful Fish Eagle sightings. We also came across a "green" hippo. He was lying in a pool of water covered in green algae. He was not pleased to be disturbed by us, and got out of the water, covered in green, snorted and came charging at our vehicle. It was so funny. But we got away.
Our time is running out here in the park, but we will try again for cats and dogs tomorrow and on Thursday. I will try to report back tomorrow afternoon again.

Hi Forumites, it's me again. We were woken up by the rain at 4 am this morning. What a beautiful day in the Park! We took the tar road from LS via Skukuza to Tshokwane and via the H10 back to LS. On route we visited the most Southernly Baobab - what a beaut! Another day without cats or dogs, however, we saw a black rhino on our way back on the H10.
Then the drama started - we came across a herd of elephant, about 16, of which 5 were small babies. We stopped to let them cross the road and started taking pictures and the video. From the opposite side a white Corolla with a ND registration number approached and stopped right in the way where the elephants wanted to cross. The elephants started crossing the road at the back of the Corolla. The next moment the driver's door opened and an idiot got out of his vehicle, camera and all. He started taking pictures while the elephants were not even 8 m away. We took a picture of it as well as video taped the whole scene. As soon as we came back at LS, we reported him at reception, who phoned the ranger, who came to watch the video himself. He was shocked at what he saw, and asked us to e-mail the evidence to him. He promised that the idiot will get a R1 500,00 fine. He wished he was there, so that he could escort him to the nearest gate, never to let him in again!
I'm not worried about the big 5 Bush Baptist, but is nice to find them on one day, which we couldn't do the past seven days. I will post the pictures of the ME and the Lizard Buzzard as soon as I get home to try and find out how to do it.

Hi again, I forgot to tell you the sad part of it all - tomorrow is our last full day for this holiday in the Park, until September, when we will return. We are heading back home early Friday morning. (My 4 X 4-legged "kids" are waiting for me Bush Baptist!) Everywhere we stopped to refresh, everything was spotless clean and all the personnel, even the cleaners, were very friendly. We simply love KNP! I am glad to report that even Nkuhlu's cloack rooms were spotless, and the shop was fully stocked.
The reason why we do not see as many animals as we used to in the past in this part of the KNP, is because of all the rain during this season. The grass is higher than the Hilux, and all the bushes are overgrown. It is a pity that I couldn't bring my gardener with the "snoeisker" to open it all up a bit, because I am sure all the animals sat laughing behind the bushes because we couldn't see them. My SO is getting irritated from hunger now, and it is raining again, and he still has to braai! I will conclude tomorrow evening on what happened during the day. Sleep tight!

Hi Forumites, thanks for the comments, it is appreciated. We had a lovely rhino/elephant/buffalo day again today. Still no cats or dogs, and believe it or not, not 1 hyena during our 8 day stay. It is hot, humid and cloudy, and all the buffalo are lying in the water to cool down. All the other ordinary animals, (like giraffe, warthog, zebra, impala, etc.) are bursting out of their skins. They are all so fat and lazy, they needn't even get up in the morning to start feeding, they can just stay where they are, and eat while they are lying down. We haven't seen the KNP as green as it is now ever before. It is beautiful!
Unfortunately our peace and quiet in our "heaven on earth" has come to an end until September, and tomorrow morning early we are heading back to the rat race. We promise to post a few of the photographs as soon as possible (on this same thread).
I almost forgot - does anybody know anything about the Nhlanganzwani Dam? It is on the S28 near Crocodile Bridge. Is the dam wall going to be rebuilt in the near future? I can recall that Sanparks had to break the dam wall to empty it, because there were to many hippos who contaminated the water and killed the animals who drank the water. It was such a lovely dam, especially sitting there having your coffee/tea early in the morning. We hope that all who are on their way to KNP will enjoy it as much as we did! It was lovely! Till later, good bye for now.

Hi AndreaB, I am so glad for you because you seem to enjoy Biyamiti as much as we do, and saw the big 5 on the same day as well! Maybe we will meet there someday?
Thanks LindaS, we are home safely, and really tired after all the traffic and rain storms.
I just quickly want to add that on our way out at Crocodile Bridge this morning, at 5:55, we saw a cheetah in the road, and drove behind him and sometimes next to him for about 30 minutes. What a "farewell" gesture! It was beautiful!
Always when we leave the Park, I feel as if I am switching off a light behind me, and everything stops exactly as they are at that moment. When we return, it feels as if I am switching that light on again, and everything starts to move again. How silly can one be.
We are going to hit the sack now. Good night everybody!

Hi All, I am struggling myself to death here! Everything works fine Son Godin, and thanks to you too Cheetah2111! This is my first try to post pictures, and I cannot manage to keep Photobucket open as well as my message. I will now have to send one by one. This one is supposed to be the Fish Eagle.

Dear Forumites, thanks for all the responses - it is really appreciated!
Kate Howells: Thanks for correcting me, it was in fact a dark chanting goshawk! Sorry for this mistake! It still is a beautiful bird, and stays my pride and joy!
Flying Cheetah: After a while we turned back and took the causeway to get around the road block. They were sleeping so tight, especially the baby, we didn't want to disturb them.
Son Godin, thanks a million for all your assistance, otherwise I would never be able to post any pictures. Could you perhaps give a lecture on how to "crop" a video clip as well? We also want to send that to the game ranger where the idiot got out of the car surrounded by elephants with babies. Could we also do that on Photobucket?
Kamadejo: I am currently back at work (rat race), and will try and write a proper trip report in September. I will, however, post more pictures as soon as I have time, please bare with me. And sorry again, it was actually you who asked for the picture of the baby chameleon. But everybody seemed to enjoy that! Till later.
