Just back from Christmas in the Park - we got the urge and had to go - started looking for accommodation two weeks ago and got three nights in three different camps.
Skukuza , Lower Sabie and Satara, so it was quite hectic - constantly on the move, but nowhere better to spend Christmas !!
Summertime is beautifully green and full of little ones as you all know
Just like we do over Christmas time, the animals were relaxing and sleeping..
Or just like some of us partied too much and were still out of it the day after !!
Some were opening Christmas gifts like this young jackal who was unwrapping a dung heap and found a few juicy white worms inside ( glad they weren't on the menu at Lower Sabie where we had our lovely Christmas lunch ! )
The Park was in generous mood and gave us a few special Christmas gifts too !
On the S 29 to Mlondozi, the Park gave us these two brothers - just briefly until they disappeared into the tall grass
Another gift was given to us on the Maroela loop ( S 83 ) near Skukuza...
He was a brute and crossed the road right in front of us ..
but stopped and looked back
even marked his territory ...
but she didn't follow ( we just got a glimpse of her, but she was skittish and scared of the cars - 3 more cars had joined us by then )
He eventually turned back and crossed back to her side of the road
We always get a little parting gift from the park and it wasn't any different this time
This morning just two kilometres from Satara we got our last gift ..
Quite a send off, as it was the last of a long list of predators we saw over the weekend : as you can see, we encountered lions, leopards, cheetahs, and this caracal, but we couldn't take photos on the night drive though, where we got to see genets, a serval , two African wild cats and hyenas !!
