Hi everybody,

I am Flutterby's son and I am going to be doing a TR of all the :cam: I take while we are in Kruger. (WARNING - they probably won't be so good ) We will be staying at Orpen for the 1st two nights, (the 29th and 30th of September) and at Lower Sabie for the last two nights(the 1st and the 2nd of October). Lower Sabie is my favourite camp, so I am really happy we are staying there! I have never stayed at Orpen so I am looking forward to seeing what it is like and what it has in store for us! I normally go with my mom and grandfather to Kruger, but now my great uncle and his girlfriend, or as you adults call it his SO , will be joining us! My dad, as normal will be staying at home feeding my dogs, or as he likes to call them " the stupidest dogs in the world, even though they aren't! :naughty:

My mom, Flutterby will be doing a proper TR with all the roads we went on and everything else - its called " A Flutter to Kruger with my family and other animals. "

At the top of my wishlist is a Honey badger so let's hope we see one. Apparently they come into Orpen at night - I really hope so!!
All my books, checklists etc are on the table and waiting to get packed! Especially for my mom - I do not have 50 books - only 49!!

So until then goodbye! I'm SO excited!!!!

Hi guys,

Thanks for your kind comments!!
Mellory - sorry we were in too much of a hurry to pick you up!

Day 1

We left home at about 3.30am (way too late  ), and because all the 'ancients' wanted to stop and look at scenery we only got into the park at about 9.15!! :x

We went into the park at Phabeni and had to drive all the way to Orpen. We stopped at a few places on the way, and had lots of good sightings!! :) I am sorry if some of the pics are similar to my mom's but we were in the same car!

We saw these chaps out of the water at Nyamundwa Dam.

Image

A grumpy fellow!

Image

As soon as we saw this ellie I was behind the seat (there were too many to choose from though), but then realised he wasn't moving for a while. You'll be pleased to hear that I'm getting much braver when it comes to ellies!

Image

A difficult breakfast.

Image

Cute!

Image

Our first "traffic jam"! LION!

Image

That's all for now. :D

Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments!

Day 1 (continued)

Well after our great sighting of the lion we moved on and saw these chaps trying to find some shade!

Image

And then....
2 TRAFFIC JAMS RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!

This was at the first,

Image

And this at the second,

Image

Image

Enough said!
So we had seen all the big 5 except for rhino, now that's not something you get to say everyday!

We were waiting for the honey badger's, but did not see them, instead we saw this,

Image

What a great start to the trip!

Day 2

We were up at 5.00 and left at 6.00 sharp (finally back to normal)
This hyena was the first animal we saw, and he was right on the side of the road, as you can see.

Image

Image

Our first croc.

Image

I just could not walk past these flowers without taking a :cam:.

Image

And then a Kingfisher, my favourite bird. Johanna was very happy with seeing this to as she has always wanted to see a kingfisher in the wild!

Love this :cam: !

Image

Finally a steenbok that does'nt run away when you are taking a :cam: of it!

Image

So, quite a slow day! We did see lion, but they were very far away, so could'nt get a :cam: (I decided not to really count them)

BUT, there was something else in store for us!!

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your compliments!!

Well, I said there was something else in store for us, so I will start off like this.

I went to have a shower while the 'ancients' were still cooking dinner and then my mom ran into the bathroom shouting - LEOPARD AT WATERHOLE!!! So I quickly got dressed again and ran to the waterhole and there it was again!

AND then,

After all the excitement we were all very tired and went to bed. My mom was showering when I heard a BANG! I thought it was my mom in the shower so I ignored it, but then I saw something run past the screen door and saw lights flashing on our patio, so of course I shouted HONEY BADGER!

My mom and I ran outside and shone the torch everywhere and eventually saw this!!

Image

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!

Hi guys and thanks so much for your comments!!

Day 3

Again the first thing we saw were hyena, but this time they had a lovely meal with them!

Image

Then my very first sable!!
(Not very good, but still proof!)

Image

And then as you all know we saw lions hunting, but with no kill!

Image

Image

Image

We then moved off from the lion and saw another member of the big 5.
Shame - two huge animals trying to fit under one tiny tree!

Image

Then we saw someting amazing!

Image

So after a great morning we decided to go back to camp for a nice long swim and then go out for a few more hours.
We had been driving for about 3 hours and only seeing the usual.
We were on the sabie river road when we saw a vechicle stopped next a game ranger talking about something, we soon realised what it was they were talking about!

Image

What a great way to end a perfect day! :D

As it was the hottest day of our trip we went straight back to camp and had a nice long swim again!
We then went out again and saw this -

What a brilliant way to end our best trip ever!

After seeing lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, honey badger, sable and so much more I can't wait to go back and do another TR!
Thanks you all so much for following my TR and I really hope you enjoyed it!
