Did a bush braai tonight.....big group, and the organisers managed to arrange things so they were with me and the rest of the group were in the big vehicle. We had a good time pottering and enjoying whatever came. Spent some time with a small ellie herd, watching a tiny baby messing about chasing its own shadow/running around bushes/etc. So cute!!! Was told about a leopard but did not chase it......and we would have missed the ellies if we had. Heard later that someone who did chase after it got there to find it had just moved off!!!!

Now must get to bed as I am going back to BnD in the morning to help with the walk.

Will catch up with bush camp walk when I have time!

Looking forward to read the rest.

Back from bush walk this morning......quiet walk with just 5 guests. We saw a lion on the road on our way through to BnD, but he had gone when we returned. Shortly after starting the walk we heard him roar.....but did not see him at all. Found impalas, duikers, and ellies in the distance. The exciting moment came within sight of the vehicle.....something moved in the grass ahead of us, and then a leopard exploded into view and ran off at right angles to us and quickly disappeared again in the long grass. It had been sleeping under a bush and was only about 6m from us when it woke up and ran off!!!

A sunset drive this evening and another walk tomorrow morning.....meanwhile must go to the office and do some work there.

What a special sighting on a bush walk, EJ.   Though it may have been an initially heart-pounding experience, I'm sure everyone eventually appreciated the magic of the moment.

Last night's international drive (German, British, Portuguese and Argentinian) was fairly quiet, but we still managed the big 5 minus a leopard. Apart from a couple of rhinos in the bush, 3 tried a road-block stunt on us too. There were several ellie encounters, all peaceful - the first in the river valley at Matjulu bridge with 6 dugha boys as on-lookers. One lioness on the rocks at Mlambane drift gave us a good view if a little far away. She eventually yawned and I told the guests she would probably get up soon and disappear over the rocks......and she did just that!

We also had impalas, kudu, giraffes, banded mongoose, duiker, and crocs catching fish.

I'll bet the tourists were amazed that you could tell what the lioness was going to do next.
You sound ever so busy, but I'm sure you love it all.

Back from morning walk and waiting for water to heat for a shower.

Again international guests who had never walked in Kruger before, and were on their 2nd day in South Africa anyway! Rhino capture team drove past us as we set out, and the helicopter flew overhead just as we were about to start walking so we were a little worried, but it did not affect us. Nice encounter with a big white rhino bull too. Otherwise fairly quiet.

Bush braai again tonight.

Hpoefully all your international guests understand English fairly well EJ! Lots of wonderful sightings on your night drive, and your bush walk sounds equally exciting! I'm sure your guests enjoyed every minute of the walk!

The bush braai was a bit strange.....I was told 8 guests, got there to find 12! Had to quickly call for other arrangements, and ended up swapping roles with the guide doing security as I cannot drive the big truck which was needed instead. So did not drive, but still had a meal!

Today was out on a full day drive with geo-physicists attending a conference in Skukuza. The trip was basically geology orientated, but as only 4 of them had been in Kruger before everything was up for grabs. We had such a good time too!

Ellies up close and personal and well-behaved, dugha bulls 3 times, rhinos in the distance twice, a leopard in a tree near Lower Sabie (with a traffic jam such as only a cat in Kruger can produce), and 2 separate lion pride sightings! First shortly before the leopard......lionesses on the road walking towards us with a wall of cars following (we just sat still and let the animals and cars pour around us!), then older cubs, and eventually big daddy marking his territory as he came. At least 12 animals in all!!!! Later almost at home we had a pride in the Sand River bed.....the same ones I saw at bush camp, with the young cubs playing around....even with dad's tail.

Also had kudus several times, lots of giraffes and zebs and wildebeest and warthogs. Impalas of course, and 2 reedbuck.....youngster and adult. Also hippos and crocs at Sunset Dam.

The truck was driven by Pilot from Skukuza and Letters also joined him so we were a team of 3. They sat in the front while I sat at the back with the guests and talked a lot!!!! The others also did their share though. Thoroughly enjoyed it...... Repeat performance next Saturday at the end of the conference....but then different guests of course.
