Left the berg for the coast yesterday.....and drove through rain in horrid traffic driving too fast for the conditions, but got here safely. Home Sunday probably.

Managed to start and finish my KZN trip with 2 nights spent with Elsa and Klystron! Very good way to begin and end a trip indeed. The Drakensburg was great, and also spent some wonderful hours with friends from years gone by.......

Now back and in full Kruger mode again!

On Sunday I was off to bush camp....my 5th this year. Having dreamed of being a guide at the camp, I am certainly getting a few opportunities now!

The original plan was to meet the guests at 1300 or very soon after that, go back to camp for a quick meal and then out for an afternoon walk. Unfortunately 6 of the 8 guests were coming up from Durban through Swaziland and did not arrive until after 3pm - far too late to get organised for a walk, so we had to be content with going to Leeupan for sundowners. It turned out that getting these guests onto the vehicle at the arranged time was worse than herding cats! I ended up telling them that they were worse than old women because this old woman was able to be ready in time.......fortunately it was the sort of camp where joking was common.......

The 8 men were seasoned hikers so we were able to cover more ground than usual on our walks. They had all been to Kruger and other parks many times, so it was surprising to find out how little they actually knew about the bush. I was even asked at one point to identify a yellow-billed hornbill (and no, the guest was not joking either!). But it meant we could really enjoy teaching them about things, and they were appreciative.

That first evening we found the usual impala and scrub hares, plus zebras, giraffes, genet, hippos, waterbuck, hippo, ellies, buffalo......
