Tonight I had only 2 guests, folk who usually visit the north of the park but gave BnD a try this time.

Another quiet night, but rhinos. impalas, scrub hares, several spotted eagle owls, genets, hippos all put in an appearance, and all were photographed......even the thick-knees managed to pose! Just after the big marula tree on the loop before Matjulu bridge I saw something in the road......yes, another magnificent leopard! No roaring this time, but instead he decided to lie down in the grass at the side of the road after some marking of territory and give himself a good clean. Then I saw him look up and told the guests he would get up soon and walk off.....and a couple of seconds later he did just that! Wonderful sighting.

It has got very windy, clouds about, so the bad weather is coming in.

Well, the 1st Aid course went OK, and will upgrade it to Level 3 over the next couple of months.

Car story remains a total nightmare.....used a hire car this week, and will have the loan of a friend's bakkie next week (have to take him to Olifants and fetch him again though). Meanwhile hope I can get something sorted out and repairs done this week....

Spent this past week on a reserve near Hoedspruit on a tracking course. It was a great week.....even though I was the only female there as usual! Getting used to sorting these menfolk out now...... Made some stupid errors in the assessment and argued myself out of correct answers, but still made Level 2 and only just missed getting Level 3. The only folk who made Level 3 were already trackers or a field guide long involved in training and assessments himself.

Drove through Kruger from Orpen gate to get home, and found giraffes, impalas, and zebs just past the gate with ostriches on the other side of the road and wildebeest near them, plus warthogs......all within the first 1.5km!

Other sightings were hippos, buffaloes, lions (3 youngsters crossing the road), waterbuck, ellies, crowned eagle, vultures circling near Tshokwane, kudus.......

Now having a 'mug meal' and then going to get an early night.

Glad to see that you are back "home" and well done on your achievements. Yes it was a pity not to get your level 3 but you will soon be there -- relax and enjoy what you are doing.

I hope you are able to sort out your car story soon so that you once again have wheels to get around

Thanks for the sighting updated -- its been quiet while you were on course

Have a good week

I am not sure I will do this assessment again...... The whole week and the assessment were more for my own development and interest, and I now know where I am in terms of tracking and what I need to work on to improve further. There is no need to get the qualification at all. If the opportunity presents itself I may try though!

Tomorrow I have a long trip up to Olifants with a guide friend.....just so I can have his bakkie to use while he is off on trails. Might have to collect him again on Sunday, or have the bakkie till the middle of next week if he has another trail too......

EJ at least you do not have to drive up so you can relax a little and enjoy the animals on the way up .
