Well noticed SAF. A very happy forum birthday to you, EJ - loved your posts over the years and always excited to read about what you've done or seen. A very busy lady, we note, and you're really living your dream to the full. Viva la next six years.

Thanks again for all the good wishes and encouragement.

A book???? Will have to wait until I retire (at the moment I'm retreaded!).

This morning it was a walk with 8 international guests (Scandinavian) who only arrived yesterday. Although we saw rhinos and giraffes on the way to the walking area the walk itself was quiet.....but lots of information given, and the guests enjoyed it.

Probably should start trying to catch up on the bush camp report......while I still have some memories left!

As most of you know I was 2nd rifle to Imberbe for this camp. The guests were all known to him.

The first afternoon we were too late for a walk so headed down the Salitjie road for the sundowner stop. We found some rocks and decided it was a good place to stop. There were some dugha boys nearby, but the nature of the rocks made it safe as they would not have climbed up to us on that side.

We were enjoying the view and atmosphere when suddenly a herd of ellies approached from the opposite side from the buffalo. They were led by a determined looking matriarch determined to head our way and use the rocks to access the river! Quick instructions to the guests, and then Imberbe took the lead in shouting and making noises to get her to turn away with her family. She really did not want to go! But eventually we persuaded her, and she led the herd to the road. The danger was not yet past as she could turn our way again at any point and trap us against the river.....and she nearly did just that as she got to the car park area. A bit more shouting and noise and the day was won. The ellies moved off and we could finish the interupted snacks and drinks.

The drive gave more ellies, nyala, bushbuck, duiker, giraffe, rhinos, impalas, hyenas.......

Next morning we were getting up early as we had the longest drive to the walking area (Imberbe cleverly decided to make the first morning the furthest drive and then get closer so the earliest wake up time was first too!).

So sorry to leave this hanging.......just too busy at the moment......

Anyway next morning we headed for the walking area early......already quite warm. It was fairly quiet sightings-wise but we did see waterbuck, ellies, giraffes, impalas, hyenas.

I managed to trip over a branch soon after starting the walk......was looking around for danger in the bushes and did not see it under my feet. Fortunately no damage to anything other than my pride although had to clean dirt out of the rifle.

Then Imberbe stopped and stepped aside to talk to the group and I started to move forward to watch for danger ahead.......and immediately saw a grey shape charging towards us on the path! Quickly alerted Imberbe......

This sounds like its going to be fairly heart stopping EJ. Don't forget we're hanging in there with bated breath waiting to see what this grey something is.
Loving your TR.

Imberbe turned and saw the charging beast...... He motioned to the guests to stand still....... It stopped briefly and came on again......I looked quickly at him for guidance......He raised his rifle to his shoulder......only 3m away now.......
