Sasol Shimuwini Wilderness Birding
20th – 23rd March
(an off the beaten track birding experience hosted by Honorary Rangers Limpopo Region)

This exclusive birding weekend promises to be an exciting event as we explore the wilderness areas of the Shimuwini region of the north-western Kruger National Park. This area is largely unchartered as far as birding is concerned so all our observations will go towards the South African Bird Atlas project. Excursions will be conducted in open safari vehicles and on foot and will mainly take place in the remote areas of the park that visitors never get to see.

The open gabbro shrubland, rugged Mopani bushveld and riverine habitats should provide an interesting variety of mammals and birdlife, not to mention the spectacular, natural landscapes and geological formations. Activities that will form part of a stimulating itinerary include guided bird drives, exploring the ‘Klein’ Letaba River, bird atlassing in virgin pentads, visits to the remote Stapelkop and Black Heron Dams, recording of large breeding birds and red data species, night drives, campfire chats and informative presentations.

Accommodation consists of en-suite Guest Cottages in the beautifully appointed Shimuwini Bush Camp on the banks of the Letaba River.

Enjoy this exciting birding weekend in the company of leading Limpopo Province ecologist Joe Grosel who will be your guide for the weekend. The Honorary Rangers will be your friendly hosts, catering for your every need and providing the all important and sumptuous bush cuisine. Participation is restricted to 16 people. So if you’re looking to do something different in 2014 this Bundu Birding Bash is for you!
The cost for this unique birding event is R3750 per person. The price includes all birding activities (drives & walks), accommodation for 3 nights, teas, all meals, presentations and birding material. Not included are park entrance and conservation fees and personal drinks. For full itinerary please contact Charles Hardy – email or Cell 083 457 1721.
