SANParks Head Office Wins Bowls Tourney Against Honorary Rangers
In what promises to become an annual big event, SANParks’ Head Office bowls team last weekend won the 4-way contest against Midrand, Johannesburg and West Rand Honorary Rangers Regions.
This event launched a year ago when West Rand challenged Head Office to a bowls match held at the Irene Country Club. Needless to say, the final scores then were so manipulated, twisted and subjected to forfeit points that neither teams could concede defeat – so both teams won. But, such was the outreach and general team-building success of the event, that West Rand Region decided to not only challenge SANParks again but to also include Johannesburg and Midrand Regions in the bun fight. For once we could put aside fund raising and budget concerns and have a little friendly rivalry on the bowling greens.
The final results saw Midrand come in second and Johannesburg relegated to 3rd place. The much coveted 4th place and the kite award went to West Rand Region. Perhaps we should go fly kites then but then the next contest could include just such a slot?
It must be noted that the winning team is “under scrutiny” for alleged excessive rowdiness on the greens leading to most certain distraction of the other teams as may have been reflected in the final results.
A wonderful event where there were fines aplenty and many noteworthy comments recorded from the greens – most too ambiguous for print.
From the West Rand Team – a huge thank you to our SANParks colleagues and those players and supporters from Midrand and Johannesburg Regions for contributing to a truly enjoyable event.
See you all next time.
