On Saturday 12 December, the West Coast National Park's Honorary Rangers hosted their annual Lagoon Challenge (previously known as the West Coast Cycle Tour) through the scenic national park. We recorded 721 riders this year, and the first batch left from the Park Head Office in Langebaan at 07h00. The threatened wind held back till after the race, providing riders with ideal, although quite warm conditions for racing.

The West Coast Honorary Rangers provided marshaling and sweep vehicle support for the riders and the Pedal Power Association managed the start/finish and timekeeping.

The winner of the 80km race was Tredoux Odendaal who recorded a time of 2:12:45, and winner in the 30km event was Henk van Schalkwyk in 01:10:21. Congratulations to both of these riders!

The first lady home in the 80km race was Kelly Tomè who recorded a time of 2:19:48, and the first lady home in the 30km event was Shantelle Kotze in 01:24:28. Congratulations to both of these riders too!

A big thank you to all local restaurants, wineries, B&Bs and other accommodation facilities who provided prizes in the form of overnight stays, meals etc. These went down really well with all of the prize- and lucky draw winners.
