Every cent the SANParks Honorary Rangers (HR) raise through fundraising projects has to be spent directly on a Park Project or need. Last year (2011) the 1,200 of us countrywide raised R31m on such Projects - an invaluable source of income that SANParks otherwise would not have had.

The HR National Executive Committee (NEC) is constantly looking for ways to fund the administration of our national operation, but such efforts make us take our eyes off the ball, which in this case is raising funds for SANParks - not for HR.

If you believe we are doing a worthwhile job, why not make a donation to help keep us going? You will be providing the very oil that keeps our wheels turning! The donations will be used to pay for us to get together three times a year from all parts of the country to formulate policy, plan and do things that NECs do, fund our donor management partner who facilitates international donations into our bank account, pay our annual bank account audit as required by law, pay for ink, paper and such, and a host of other stuff that would bore you to death. No payments are made towards salaries or stipends to HRs - we are all volunteers and do it for free. We just need your help with the overheads.

If this idea is out of line sorry but I think this could bring in a few rands.

Car rental's at the airports are all doing business with tourist visiting South-africa,they have some immediate needs. One of these needs is a cooler box and water/cooldrinks. When get a car driving from the car rental that will be the first stop to buy these stuff ,not a easy thing to do.This cooler box's is normally of no use at the end of the trip.
If the HR's can put a ice machine plus cooler boxes and water bottles the tourist can hire a cooler box for his trip buy water etc and leave the rental premises geared for the first few hours of his trip.At the end of his trip he return the box for a deposit refund.
For this the support of the rental companies could be get because it is a additional service to their clients and via the forum we can promote these companies and project for it runs in support of the HR's.
This is the broad idea but could work and there is a few Rand to made.

Thanks for the good idea, and no, you're not out of line!

However, I think my original email was unclear, and there was a major typing error that I would never have seen if you hadn't made your post. So I have edited it to fix the mistake and sommer updated it with new info at the same time.

There are two distinctly different types of fundraising that the NEC does. We raise funds for the Park and we raise funds to keep ourselves going (admin). In the first instance, all fund raised must be spent on SANParks. In the second, all funds raised will be spent on our admin. It is this second type that this appeal is trying to address, as the handful of us on the NEC can no longer afford to pay the R150,000 per annum that it costs us to manage the ever-growing organisation. Furthermore, the NEC cannot manage the kind of project you have suggested, as we simply do not have the time as well as do our (considerable) volunteer work.

Your idea will be passed to those Regions nearest the airports that are adjacent to Parks, as the funds raised must be spent on SANParks, not on HR admin.
