Last trip we were lucky with the Roan Antelope, had some different sightings in the Mopani area.
One of the sightings was at very small distance , one of the Roan was almost looking in the car, just a few meters from the window..

Ja ja!

You know, I've been thinking a while now about starting an id/location/numbers thread on roan and sable, as their markings are so distinct!

What do you think?

Give it a go RP... :) got some pictures of both Sable and Roan with close-ups.
I have no idea about their numbers but there aren't that many I heard. Maybe a thread attrackts people to submit/post pictures of them.

Great pictures Aat.

I saw my first Roan (two) on 13 January 2011 near Tihongonyeni on the Tropic of Capricorn Loop. I spent five mornings there and besides Tsessebe (every day) I saw Lichtenstein's Hartebeest on two mornings.

One does not have to go to KNP to see the Roan antelope. For those people near Kimberley (like me), Roan antelope can also be found in the Mokala park (the "youngest" of SANPARK's parks.

This one walked in front of us for about 1km in the road and every 100m he was leaving his mark. What an experience.

Superb pictures everyone.  It's been a long time since I have seen a Roan. I think I will have to organise a trip for the northern section of the park.
