OK...here's a better pic, it was April 2004 when we saw the biggest group of kudu I have ever seen, up to 20, and also the biggest horns.

The tips of the horns are white, anyone knows why?

GS,

The tips of the horns are not actually white, just a little big lighter brownish/ivory.

They are just the growing points of the horns, like you get at a tree as well. The grow point of a tree/branch is always a lighter colour, and is softer as well.

This albinistic - not albino...from Tshokwane in 1986!

Tshokwane had a rash of albinistic animals in that era, from lion to buffalo! :shock:

I have only ever seen a white Lion and nothing else! :D

We saw this Kudu between Olifants and Letaba (Near von Wielliechs baobab) in December. He left his 'hat' on. A mud cake, complete with grass, stuck between his horns. He was trying his best to get it off by rubbing against the branches. I wonder what happened and if it eventually dried? What was he thinking??

Excellent question, Bennie&Son!

A lot of male antelope bash their heads against bushes to mark their scent from various glands around the face!

I think this instinct goes into overdrive when they are at a water point, because it is used by so many animals! :?

Could also be a simple display. (The thrashing, not the "ornament"!) :D

Tsessebe are compulsive with this behaviour!

Just my opinion!
