if yo look at the top of the horn so can see grass, was prob. rutting and ripped out a clump of grass that got lodged between his horns

Thanks!

According to my brother-in-law, (a hunter), a kudu uses the circle to aim if they want to reach seedpods with there horns in the dry season. Whether it’s a hunting tail I do not know, but with this photo, I can almost believe him!

Not sure about "aiming", as I've never heard that one, but I do know that they can always see the tips of their horns through the curl. And they use it to break down, or bring closer, branches to feed on.

Definitely my favourite when it comes to antelopes. A couple of pictures taken during our August trip to KNP.

Taken around Punda Maria, a real price winner pair of horns

Another beauty having a nap and taken around Lower Sabie

At first glance one may describe Lockie's offering as pathetic, but judging kudu horns is a major pastime amongst hunters here, and I have been forced to listen to them on occasion...

The trick is to combine the length of the horn (around the outer perimeter), the number of "turns", and the width between the tips into some sort of formula...

And then you may argue that yours is so young, it wins anyway..

(This is what keeps grown men busy arguing for months, never mind minutes... :| )

So Lockie's may be a "future tusker"...
