This is the version I was intending to send ...the reduced quality means you cant see the individual hairs on his beard but it gives a rough idea of what the original was like

Hallo all

Who has ever seen this magnificent animal ?

Image

We used to see him during the late 70s and early 80's on the S35. As many people now have Duke on their list we had him on our the list. We normally saw him near Tshokwane.

Lets hear from the old timers.

The chance to see him again is very low. My field guide says, kudu goes to an age +/- of 14 years.

Jawohl, Toddelelfe!

That kudu must be long gone!

Albino animals also tend to be targeted by predators earlier because they are more conspicuous.

Hi

Since I took this photo we saw him for another 3 years.
He was very alert and with the slightest noise or strange sound he would took off and disappeared into the bushes. Probably why he managed to reach adult hood. The last time (I cant remember which year, I think 1982) his horns were in the fourth turn. We never saw him again. He must have met his faith during the same year.

On two separate occasions we have seen white Impala babies.
One day you would see them and the next day they were gone.Probably taken out during the night. Never managed to get photo's as they were to shy.

Hi Bucky

Where did you see the white Kudu bull. Is it possible that it might be the same bull that you have seen?

If I can recall correctly , it was around tshokwane , but it was many moons ago during the 80's (I was still a teenager back then , as I saw it when travelling with my parents) , so I would be lying if I said I knew exactly where it was .

We often wondered how on earth he got on with sticking out like a soar thumb as far as predators go .

Hi Bucky

It looks as if it was the same animal that you have seen.

He was always very alert, much more than the animals around him. That might be the reason why he reached adulthood.

In the 42 years that I have been visiting Kruger it is the only white Kudu that I have seen. We might be the only forum members that have seen this magnificent animal.

Round about the same time and at the same area there was a Young elephant that was the leader of group of Buffalo's. Did you see them?

Both these anomalies were featured in CUSTOS, the Parks Board magazine at that time.

I'm sure there must be a forumite that has all the copies and can scan the relevant articles - I have lost most of mine.

The elephant story is really brilliant and lasted many years!
