The picture makes the serval appear larger than it actually is - their body size is probably just as large as a storks .

Hey Ndloti although not the norm Storks (and Cranes) are very much part of the diet of Servals. Also nicely documented on a Nat Geo documentary, i think it was in the Serengeti where a serval catches a white stork and has it stolen by hyenas.

Otherwise a great thread with some amazing pics

Hey, o-dog! I think "not the norm" is the succinct phrase!

Hi
I couldn't find anything on the smaller cats other than the AWC topic and have always been fascinated by them. While all the attention and glory goes to the big 3, would love to see pics and hear more about servals and caracals. Personally I have only seen a serval once at Kruger, with pics, and a Caracal, but no pics, at Pilanesberg.
The foll pics are in Dec at Kruger on the S 29 west of H10. It was in the middle of the afternoon and hot and I had not seen anything worthwhile for a couple of hours at least, when I noticed a movement in the grass, so decided I would stop driving and just see if anything came out of the bush and if it would be interesting... :). I had an uninterrupted viewing pleasure for about 15 mins before it went off into the bush again
Cheers

Sandeep

Thanks so much to whoever moved my post to this :). If any confirmation was needed that I am technologicaly impaired - I was only seeing the 1st page of the various posts...
Yup absolutely sole witness with not a soul in sight. And I actually sat and we watched each other for around 15 mins :)

Now I have heard of more people who have seen a Serval during the heat of the day so I hope my great moment also will come some day
