Thanks to Jannie for posting and to Marna for the information. Gosh it all sounds rather complicated. :? but I think I get the general gist. :D

Thank you Jannie.
I am leaving for Kruger on Friday and the African Wildcat tops my wish list.

I'm afraid the interbreeding of Wild Cats and ferals may already have occurred in Kruger.

Around 2000 I found one on the Eileen Orpen Dam loop near Tshokwane at about 15h00.

It was not shy at all and fooled around in the road, chasing butterflies etc!

I have seen them before, and this one did have the right build an red behind the ears. However, it had white paws!

I'll try to post the photos, but will have to scan them first (not digital).

This sighting was a few kilos from the Moz border - though I wonder how many domestic cats are in that particular area.

I think they will not make it as a separate species in the Lowveld - perhaps in Kgalagadi.

Other sightings: Renosterkoppies dam
Orpen Night drive (Often)

Hi Penny, nice to meet you in person.

Please explain the 3rd pic

Our party saw quite a few 2 weeks ago in KTP. Many saw a kill which we just 'enjoyed' and it was over in a second or two.

Hi BB - I have had major computer problems since my return and thus have been somewhat forced into silence!

The kitten was amongst the garbage in the Attendant's closed in back area behind his "tent" where the garbage is stored for Kielie Krankie until a truck comes to take it away. He informed us that this particular AFW virtually lives in and around the 4 units at KK and hunts geckoes, cobras and rats. The kittens were just too beautiful and one is almost fooled into thinking that they are tame!!

Lovely to meet you! Thanks you for going to the trouble of coming to find me!

I will get to my report during this week and start loading it onto the sightings thread!

Yours in Parking
Penny
