It looks as if this is the same honey badger as the one DB captured

Picture has been taken in Satara camp in February this year

Hi

Saw this one digging into a hole and then looking around just long enough for me to get a few snaps before it decided it had posed enough. This was on the S90 just before the turn off for S41 while driving from Olifants to Satara in early Dec.

I saw another one on the same trip while driving to Mopani on the S 49, but this one was a quick glimpse before it trotted off. Of course the famous one at Satara provided a fair bit of entertainment while emptying out the bins :).

One always feels priviliged, blessed and very lucky to catch a few moments with these guys in the wild.
Cheers

Sandeep

Great pics, Sandeep.  What a privilege indeed to see these elusive creatures in the day. Is this one a little muddy?

Thanks for the comments

I guess it must have been about 1 o clock in the afternoon, and I just drove past and noticed the slight movement in the grass, so backed up and really couldn't quite believe my luck :).
And yes, like I said it was digging into a hole so had the mud on its head. I waited around for some time even after this guy went off in the hope that the area around the hole would yield some more surprises, but I guess I had already had my share of luck.
And would you believe that the next day we spotted a serval in the middle of the afternoon - sun beating down and just when you think you must be crazy or plain stupid to be driving around at this time, you see something like this.... Will try to figure out where to post the pics of the serval - the only time I have seen one at KNP.
Yes, the lesser spotted creatures are always special and you hold these pics dearly :)

Since childhood I have always loved honey badgers.

We saw some on both of our last two trips. One sighting was what I suppose was a mother and a cub, just a few km east of Orpen, but quite far into some open veld.
The second was in the Satara region, on one of the back roads. We were very lucky as we were cruising along very slowly and the badger just appeared out of nowhere, wanting to cross the road, but as soon as it saw our car, it changed direction and came straight for the car, with absolutely no sign of fear at all. I was a bit nervous that it would decide that one of my tires will be a fantastic afternoon snack, but it soon lost interest and disappeared into the grass across the road.
It was only after these sightings that I read that there are people who have been going to Kruger for years and years and never seen one and would give almost anything to have that privilege. This made me realise how special these sightings really are, and I'm very grateful for them.

Awesome HB photos!
All our HB sightings were very brief and photos always blurry :wall:
Satara's HB seems like a naughty little bugger :naughty:
Probably the most photographed HB in Kruger :cam:

Wow - you all have so many excellent and close-up honey badger pics! Thanks so much for sharing!

We did see 2 honey badgers on our Christmas 2007 trip to Kgalagadi, at a waterhole north of Nossob in the late afternoon, quite far away though and a bit blurry, but still a honey badger sighting:

Will be looking out for a honey badger on our upcoming Kruger trip! :)
