Pity no pics vgstephens....wow...all the way up there at Punda?? I have had no reports of Sable seen that far up Would be nice to know that they are actually in that area...who knows, maybe someone will post some pics....

I hope you all that is interested in Sable in Kruger can come up with some names for the bulls.....???? I concentrated on them rather than the ladies...one name comes to mind....RP....as I think he is as elusive to many of you, including myself, as the Sable in Kruger Im not very good at remembering names....so think will leave it to the Forum to decide on names for the dark face one seen around Jones dam...and the other 2 around Talamati.......then we get onto the others???

I would just suggest naming the bulls and herds after the first forumite who sends a pic!

I have a suggestion that when it comes to naming of individuals or herds that they are named after areas/roads/waterholes in which they are most frequently viewed or perhaps of a specific visual abnormality (skew horns or freak colouration etc) if such occurs. For example, the Jones Dam Bull, or the Mudzanzeni breeding herd. This keeps it far more professional than peoples/forumite names and actually apart from adding scientific value becomes an easy point of reference to the sable you are talking about. Can you imagine if we keep sending in pics of the o-dog Bull or the Mgoddard Bull...noone will know who you referring to (if they havn't learned this thread off by heart) while if its named after the area it will be of far greater value.
I mention this point as that's what we do in the Sabi Sands with leopard/lion prides etc where huge data bases occur for many of the animals.
Ofcourse it your choice in the end but at the end of the day it will go a long way into determining the value of this thread.

Anyway keep it up and hopefully I will be supporting you with some current pics as my last ones are from 2005 and I think this is too long ago.

thanks for the replies...so I think we will go this way......

The very successfull male with the big herd at Jones Dam will be called Jones...and the 2 lone males seen around Talamati wil be called Talamati and Fairfield until we can distinguised them.....I will post pics of these 3 tomorrow and lets see if we can find some markings on them that can tell us who we see where???

Please if anyone of you disagree, dont be hesitant to say so but I do think its a start to this threat

Unfortunately the ones around PKop and Mopani areas have not given me enough pics to say ""That is Him"!!! So until we receive some more pics.....this will be it...The Sable on S36!!

Lets follow Jones, Talamati and Fairfield for the time being May they be blessed with lots of babies and spread Sable through Kruger
