apparently this pride has been doing it for years. One of the females started doing it when she was a youngster and has now passed it on to other females and the cubs

they known as the kahuma pride or something like that

the explanation is somewhere on the latest sightings kruger facebook page

They are known as the Vurhami pride.

I saw this pride about 1 km outside of Croc Bridge in December 2011, doing the same thing. They were all in a tree right next to the road and traffic was so hectic the rangers had to step in and restore order. Needless to say we only manage to get a very quick picture, but I will try and post it anyway.

I don’t think it was for comfort. The lioness changed positions the whole time.

To get away from the heat is a possibility.
