On 26 April, I saw a herd of about 6 or 7 Sable, halfway along the road from Orpen to Talamati. They seemed quite relaxed and content, about 20 meters from the side of the road. Its a long time since I have seen Sable in the Park, and then never this far north. The last time I saw some was in the Pretoriuskop area. A great sighting !!

When i read this the first time, i thought you make a joke to me. I didn't know, that sable sigthnings are rare. So i must be a lucky guy when i saw in 1994 these Sables.

It was a lucky day for us, we also saw lions, buffalos, 2 rhinos, elephants und wild dogs.

Lovely pictures, Toddelelfe. The poor sable with the broken off horn. That must have been quite a fight.

Was lucky enough to see sable on the approach road to Talamati, less than a mile from the camp. We were running late for the night drive too but had to stop to admire this handsome beast.

We were very unpopular with the ranger for being late but when we explained the reason he forgave us a sped to the site we last saw them. They were still there. The ranger was dancing with delight. This was his first sighting!

Wonderful sable sighting this weekend on the salitijie road close to the high water bridge. Went down to the Sabie river to drink, and could be spotted from the tar road as well. Really great.

I went to check out Bateleur camp with a view to taking a group there and saw 10 sable including 3 calves at rooibosrand dam. First sable sighting in about 10 visits. :) :)

We saw 1 adult male, 2 adult female and 1 juv on the S140 1/6/2005.

We waited but they were in the thick 'bush' abt 40m away and didn't turn around.

Saw 6 Sable on H10, close to S129 on 15/06/2005. Nice photo's, but technically challenged. I can e-mail it to someone who could maybe put it on the forum

Thanks muchly DuQues,

My 82 year old father's photos are now famous. He takes quite good shots for somebody who has just been introduced to digital. I have a couple more, as well as the Nyala on the Orpen road, but Sable in the open like these were, is a special treat.

I've only seen these majestic animals 6 times since 1997. 4 times near Pretoriuskop and once each near Berg & Dal & Talamati.
