To do some tests to see what the cause of his death was. Just to make sure that it was actually a heart attack and not something else.

I was lucky enough to see Alexander in September last year, he was truly a magnificent specimen.

Note the two holes in the right ear

Hi
I took this photo back in 2005 quite close to Oliphants. He was definitely the biggest tuskers we saw on the trip. Can someone tell me whether he is Alexander?

I would feel really honoured if I had seen him in his prime!

It is a very sad day when these old Tuskers go down.

We have just returned from a wonderful week in KNP.

Two interesting points regarding the death of Alexander:

The very competent Field Guide, Zanele, at Shingwedzi had not been told that Alexander had died and said he was a future Big Tusker.

The Elephant Museum at Letaba also has Alexander listed as living and becoming a Big Tusker.

Perhaps someone in KNP should alert their Field Guides and the Museum to Alexander's death.

Otherwise, saw plenty of magnificent elephants - all the way down from Punda Maria to Letaba.

Hi Gemma, that pictures looks like Hlanganini, he is missing the bottom part of his left ear. He is currently the biggest tusker in Kruger, so although you did not see Alexandra, you have met a legend.

The site at the end of April.

I went to the elephant museum in Letaba, and told the angels 'manning' it that Alxander had died and that Duke had broken both tusks, but they were uninterested saying that the museum is due for a revamp.

I also went to the SA rugby museum a few years ago to see that Mark Andrews was the most capped Springbok player when Joost had already retired. Now Percy....

I think that for museums to be relevant, they should be up to date and in tune with events.

I really think that Duke's broken tusks should be on display. They are topical, and that is what keeps museums fresh IMHO.

Agree with you.
I started last year setting up a special Tusker part on my website with updates as good as possible , helped by peopel sending mr info and pictures.
I was lucky to meet Alexander last year and sadly I was in the KNP just a week after he died so I could make and post some pics of his carcass.
Felt like having lost a friend

Are there still "left overs" to be seen?

(It's close to the turn-of to the Mopani rest camp.)

Best regards,

Rob

(I do hope these pictures are not to shocking.... 8) )
