I don't think they have enough space inside the elephant hall. So who knows whats going to happen to his tusks.

The following photos were scanned from "Beeld" newspaper showing a younger bull paying his last respects, or trying to revive Alexander.
Image
Trying to help him up
Image
Chasing away the vultures
Image
Sitting on the carcass

On the third photo it can be seen that the heart and lungs were already removed by officials, the scavengers have also fed on the carcass.
After realising that he couldn't do anything, the young bull put his trunk over the carcass, stood still for about a minute, as if to pay his respects, and then left.
All this happened about 20m from the road!

What terrible news, and I was really hoping to see him during our trip. :(

Why have the rangers not taken the tusks yet? Does anyone know?

Thanx Prings!

Tiredness was kicking in. It was little sleep in Kruger... Lots of things to do if you only go for a weekend! But I do not complain!

Thanks Lorraine I see there is this morning in Beeld the local newspaper an article how another bull came to say goodbye Saturday afternoon. It was very sad!

  I only see now the pics has been posted!! Thanks Keps!

Hallo to all my forum friends.

Very bad news about Alexander,I will rather try and think of all the enteraiment he has given all the visitors of the KNP for the last 50 years,I never got to see him but I am sure he was just great.

Can anyone tell us if his tusks will also now go to the Letaba Elephant Museum, maybe on our next visit to the park we can go and have a look at the tusks.

Hi Cheetahs

Currently there is no more space in the Elephant museum for any new displays. Alexanders tusks will probably be stored in the same place as Duke's tusks which is in Skukuza.

:)

A sad farewell to another great tusker. Let's be grateful for ALL the conservation efforts that go into keeping the Park a place where we can witness these magnificent creatures at close range.

That set of pics on Beeld's front page is the most heart-breaking humbling awesome pics I've seen in a long time. I'm saving the newspaper.
