Definitely, ADW - and another favourite of mine is the S28 or the upper reaches of the H10, where the ellies appear super-huge.

I apologise if this has been mentioned before, but when we were staying in Biyamiti in June, we were watching elephants coming down into the river bed one evening when we heard someone blowing a vuvuzela in short bursts a few seconds apart coming towards us . At first we wondered if it was a child, but as an elephant came up the river bed, we realised that this was where the noise was originating. It stopped to feed opposite us and the paarp-ing noise continued as it fed. it was pretty loud but the rest of the herd seemed totally accustomed to it and when it finally left, we could hear it progressing up the river bed for ages. It looked fairly young. Does anyone have any ideas about the cause? We had already named it Vuvuzela by the time it left and kept an ear open for it for the rest of our time in camp, but didn't hear it again. Below is a rather poor pic.

I've only heard lost calves repeatedly trumpeting like that?

Sorry, Salamanda, can't help more!?

But I've seen a lot of weird ellie behaviour lately myself...more later!

I have heard similar trumpeting a number of times on foot in the KNP .

RosemaryH I think this is a female in the 'New and Promising Tusker' group called MaKungwe. You might like to post it for Aat to ID in the 'Tuskers' thread.

Thanks salamanda  I will do that.

 anne-marie - thought it could have been a bit clearer :hmz: The herd was moving across the road quite quickly and I was desperate to get a shot of her.

Hear hear anne-marie! Lovely to see that interesting elephant, blurry or not ( I have lots of blurries  ) I wonder what she does if she has to run through the bush - she must have learnt to angle her head in a particular way.

This big elephant was just plain stubborn and difficult the one morning while we were on our way from Orpen to Satara. It chased a few cars and then saw us...

We had to reverse a few meters or so as it probably said "You shall not PASS !!!!!"

Hi all!! Image

Have you noticed these long legged elephants?
Image

This one was seen by my folks yesterday near Berg En Dal. Quite unusual in my experience for the Oil Fountains to have such long legs :hmz: My folks say they saw many long legged ones!
Do you think it has to do with a certain area? :hmz:

Hello, cheetah!

Big elephants like that one appear to have longer legs!

Nothing strange, and one can see the relatively small head size indicating it's a tall boy!
