We were fortunate that day (December 2006) to be photographed with the king cheetah for the ambassodor cheetah they normally used for these sessions was not itself the particular day. So they brought in this magnificent animal.

We went to the De Wildt facility yesterday and this time we were able to touch the normal spotted cheetah. So now I can say I interacted with both "types". Have anyone reading these forums ever heard them purr? It is unbelievable loud! Quoting on one of the staff's description: " It sounds like a two stroke engine."

Being able to touch them brings you so much closer to heaven.

Eagle Owl: Those photos are stunning! I've never seen an adult king before. You guys were so lucky!

p@m: If you like purring so much, come and do it again!

Update on Heathcliff, our King Cheetah: He's doing amazing. Four months old now and getting really BIG. He's been working at Spier during the day for the last two weeks now and he's met lots of people. The three cubs we have now are really exceptional and fun to work with. This afternoon, i'm actually helping to take Heathcliff out to a function- should be really fun

Hi Moose,

How about you working with a baby king cheetah and being part of it growing up! You are very fortunate. Give little Heathcliff a hug. By the way, where is Spier? Is it at Hoedspruit? Would love to come and visit him and the other cheetahs.

Hi Eagle Owl,

Spier is actually in Stellenbosch. I know where you're thinking of in Hoedspruit though.

We ended up taking another cub to the function and he was so good! I'm really excited about getting to watch this group grow up.

If you get down to Cape Town in the next few months, please PM me! I'll make sure you get to see Heathcliff :)

Thanks Moose, obviousely I have been way out of range. There must be quite a lot of cheetah facilities over South Africa.

How about posting us a photo of Heathcliff? It will be nice being updated with photo's as well, then we too can see him grow :)

Excellent idea to post "progress" pictures! Are there any Kings in KTP? Being so rare, I suppose not - worth a question, though, just in case!

This picture of a young King was taken somewhere around Cape Town in September/October in a cheetah center. Does anybody know what this place is called?

Edit: I see the picture is a bit big. If you would like me to change it, please tell me.

The only place I'd know of is the Cheetah Outreach at Spier Village.

N'est-ce pas, Moose?!

michealpr, I wonder if that could be Heathcliff at Spier. And I wonder where Moose is nowadays, as she can probably give us more info. On the previous page there is a photo of Heathcliff Moose posted earlier this year. If I'm right he turned out beautifull!!!! :D

And If I'm not right, that is still a beautifull King cheetah.

Dear Friends,

This is my first post so pls bear with me........

I have spent many a years searching for the King Cheetah but to no avail.

Has any one seen a King Cheetah before in the kruger national park since 1974 and why is the park not trying to introduce a program to find these amazing creatures ?

I have heard reports of sightings near skukuza and satara can anyone confirm this one for me and if so do u have photograpic evidence?

I have a friend in National Geographic and im pushing him to try and convince them to produce a documentry on these beautiful animals out of interist would any of you people be interisted in supporting this program if so pls post your interist so i can pass it on to National Geographic showig him the keen interist form our Sanpark friends !

Thank you so much for all your time !!!

FREEDMAN
