We saw this female white rhino in Feb and was taken at how long her horn was.

Thanks Richprins. She was seen in one of the KZN game reserves. I just wanted to post that picture because I don't think I have seen such a long horn on a rhino before.

We spent a while watching this little one suckle. It was a real "ag, schweet" moment!

On my last visit to Kruger in Novemeber, I eventually had the chance to go on a morning walk Berg-en-dal...amazing. I would recommend it to any one that enjoys the bush, I learned quite a bit about the rhino on the walk.
The most facinating thing that morning was that this animal with all it's padding under foot could pick up the vibration of a single mans footstep on the ground +/-30 metres away... wow

How is this for being able to take a close up shot?

Image

The "blue arm" seen here is my brother's little girl - and she was terrified!! The rhino's were within an arms reach.

Image

I enjoyed being able to see them so close and to take photo's, although I was worried about the little girl as she was in my care. But then the ranger drove on, turned around and again the rhino's came right up to the vehicle, and now it was no fun anymore, as they were on my side - I didn't even take one photo!!

Wow, where was this Yolande,

I have had 2 rhinos close to the car near Phabeni gate. We were on their 'path' and they waited patiently about a metre and a half from us, for us to gerrof it and then casually crossed the road.

Welcome to the forums!

If it's the photo I think you mean, that rhino died due to a fight with another rhino. They do fight to the death, and one of the members here wrote about this rhino, but can't remember where.

The horns are always cut off, same as with elephants tusks, by the rangers to prevent them ending up in the illegal circuit.

Hi Rene,

Can you please let me know details as to where the sighting of this dead Rhino was.

I have been following the thread for some months now.

Two weeks ago I saw a full on fight between a male and female which lasted more than one hour.

I will post a recount nad some pics if you want.

I look forward to your reply

A warm welcome, Rene and Kicker Cat!

The irony is that rhino seem to have become, dare we say it, overpopulated in the South of Kruger...

Still, male/female fights of that duration are extremely unlikely!
